Just purchased a new oppo BDP 83 so I'm shuffling some of my gear around. I'll be putting my Adcom CD changer into the system and am wondering if I'd be better off to run a digital signal to the LMC-1 (will be upgrading to UMC after the initial pre-order-rush) or to use the Adcom D/A converter and output the analog signal.
Thanks
-Kurt

Just try it both ways and see which you like better.

Thanks -Kurt how weird. I have both of these players. Right now I have the Oppo connection to the external decoder inputs on my Yamaha and using the digital outs on the adcom. However, once the UMC arrives, I will take a listen via an analog route to see how the Adcom sounds when its does the processing. I'm betting it would sound better now if I use the analog outs. But I will do an A/B after the UMC arrives to see which sounds better.

It's always been one of my favorite pieces of gear. I've only had trouble with it once. It got hung up and no matter what button I pressed, either on the remote or panel, disc 2 would start. I took it in and the tech couldn't figure out what was wrong. As it turned out, the disc 2 button sticks a little and made constant contact. Apparently, pressing any button momentarily interrupts the contact and then resumes contact and starts disc 2 again. The button still sticks, but now I know I can pull it back and everything's fine.
Right now, it's in a system that plays in my porch. I'm looking forward to swapping it into my main system in lieu of my Marantz DVD changer.
The reason for my initial post is that In prep for the changes, (Oppo, Panasonic Plasma & re-introduction of the Adcom) I want to order some Emo cables and don't want to buy more than I need.

If I get my UMC before you do, I would be glad to run a quick a dirty comparision and let you know.

A bit off topic, but does your GCD-700 tray make an awful rattling noise when it spins?
Does anyone have any suggestions on what would cause such a noise and how to fix? I can make a short vid if anyone wants to hear the rattling. As far as I can tell it has no impact whatsoever on SQ but I want to add this to my list of on going projects.

I have the GCD-700 and have it connected to a Denon AVR-4306 via coax digital currently. To my ears the DAC's in the Denon were better than the GCD. If nothing else it is simpler.

I owned a couple of the Adcom single disc CD players..the GCD 575. They have a nice solid transport with great build quality. I would think the one area where they may be a bit behind the current gear is their DACS though. That's technology from almost 20 years ago.

I would have agreed wholeheartedly but I personally experieced an exception. My JVC 1050TN, an 18 year old player, beats anything I have in the house (I'm using analog connections). I have had 11 pairs of ears confirm this finding. ;D Of course, there are some my house is full of magic . . maybe that's it. eh?
