Just received my ERC-1 .. And it sounds superb! Excellent player, especially for the sale price..
Now for the service part, my ERC-1 was "tethering" back and forth. It seems as if one of the feet were shorter than the other. If you place it on a flat surface, the rear right feet would not touch the surface, but the other three would. I called Emotiva and they are sending me a new ERC-1 ! Sarah and the tech (didn't get his name - sorry) was really nice and awesome !
You cannot beat this service!
This has made my next decision easy! I was borderline on ordering the USP-1.. but you know what.. I've decided to order based on the service alone ;D
Now I just got to explain the USP-1 to the wife ...

Does any one know if the ERC-1 sounds better than a OPPO BDP83 in 2 ch.? I am thinking of buying a ERC-1 and not upgrading my OPPO BDP83 to the new unit from OPPO. I love the looks of the ERC-1 and was hoping the sound was just as good.

I have both and I did a lot of comparing between the two; it has been a while so I forgot the particulars, but the ERC-1 had a better definition of the instruments and better soundstage than the Oppo. I would get the ERC-1 instead of doing the upgrade.

I have both also.
I like the ERC-1 much better for CD's than the Oppo in two channel. I have gone back and forth between the two and the Oppo is good but not great. The ERC-1 sounds a lot better to me.
I won't even consider getting the SE upgrade as I think the ERC-1 will smoke that too.
Just my opinion

Here's my assessment of the ERC-1's performance. My Current players : Toshiba SD-9200 DVD-A player NAD C520 CD Player My SD-9200 has been my primary CD player for the past 8 years. It is a decent DVD player, but surprisingly is an exceptional CD player. I have yet to find a better CD player than that is under $500, maybe until now ... My NAD c520 CD player has been in my bedroom system for the past 5 years. Since my SD-9200 is my preference over the NAD, I have only compared the ERC-1 to the SD-9200 and not the C520. The sound produced by the ERC-1 is extremely similar to my SD-9200 (that is a good thing). There are slight differences between the two. 1) The output of the ERC-1 seems on average to be about 2db higher than the SD-9200 (Measured with a radio Shack digital SPL meter) This makes it a little difficult to compare as I have to try an compensate for the volume difference every time I switch back and forth between the two. 2) The ERC-1 seems to reproduce the higher frequencies better than the SD-9200. For the type of music that I listen to, the ERC-1 seems to emphasize the upper frequencies more, which I prefer. These sound "clearer" to me. 3) I could not detect a difference in lower frequencies between the two. 4) One of the things I liked so much about the SD-9200 is its imaging. I have a favorite CD which I use to test imaging. The CD title is "Cipher" by the group Alpha Conspiracy and the song is "Glass" Track #6. I was impressed by the ERC-1's performance here. I can visualize all the instruments used in the track and their perspective locations on the sound stage. Very nice... I have yet to find a Cd player that can best the SD-9200 in this area.. until now.. Overall, I am impressed by the ERC-1's performance and it is a keeper for sure.. If I have time I will compare it to my NAD c520, but since I prefer my SD-9200 over the NAD, I don't think it will be any competition..

off topic, slightly... is the display supposed to be green or blue on the ERC? The pictures on the website seem blue, but when I dim the ERC to cut the UFO effect blue stray lights, the display is green ?

Next to each other the display looks way different but when I compared the Emotiva display color to the diisplay of my other components (Denon, Oppo) its very similar

Thanks for the reply Rather. I still think the display looks green to me. I'm going to look at it closer later. PS. When I was younger back in the 70's, it was the Steelers who where the dominant team and only the Cowboys gave them a run for their money. I admired them for that and ever since, I'm a true cowboy at heart.. PS #2 You should see and hear the sh** that I have to put up with from the Giants fans..
