Please take this to the sandbox. Or better yet start an engaging debate where ideas can be shared in another thread. I moved it to private IM after I said I was done with him. That is as it should be. No sense cluttering up the public forums with private squabbles

Does this forum have a 'block' or 'ignore' feature?

I haven't heard Magnepans, but I am curious, do they have a narrow sweetspot? When auditioning speakers, I listened to some Martin Logan Claritys, they sounded fantastic when I was sitting, but the moment I stood up and walked around the room the volume dropped dramatically and so did the quality of sound. It's easy to get the impression that ML's lose sound quality once you get up out of the sweet spot but that's only because they sound so much better than dynamic speakers. If you were to do a standing comparison of ML's to other dynamic speakers you'll find that they sound about the same. Ahhh... but once you're in the sweet spot (which is where any critical listening occurs) they just leave the others in the dust. BTW... Clarity's are at the bottom of ML's line up. If you should revisit demoing ML's... Vista - Vantage - Spire - Etc. would be a better choice. Just interesting if you would shopping for ML right now which used model (in $5000 range) will be your choice? Spire? Summit? or... ;D

Does this forum have a 'block' or 'ignore' feature? We seldom need one here.

I have the Martin Logan Sequel II's, which are more than 15 years old although still perform like new. When I next upgrade, I will probably get Ascents (the first ML's I ever heard) or their larger, rarer brother, Odysseys. Those are both from the line that was produced about 5 years ago. I also had a friend with a pair of CLS's, and they sounded wonderful and would be my first choice if you mostly listen to classical and jazz. I haven't personally heard their current production line, but I've heard over and over that Summits are the best speaker they've ever made. If I found a pair of those in my price range (5000 would be a heck of a deal since they go for 14000 new), I'd snatch them up.

Interesting is it such a big difference between regular Summit and XStatâ„¢? Because regular (older) Summits could be found for $4000 on AudioGon

I thought the difference is in the crossover, but that doesn't seem like much for such a large price difference. So I don't think I can answer that, but if you're seriously considering it, the nice folks at the Martin Logan Owners club forum I'm sure could expound on it all day long, and probably already have. www.martinloganowners.comEmotiva actually sponsors that forum and it's through there that I found Emo.

I own and absolutely love the Martin Logan Odysseys. They are extremely musical, yet able to hold up with the dynamics of series theater due to their 12" rear firing and 10" front firing subs. They weigh a metric ton though! But if you wish to spend ~5K for just 2ch. I would suggest the spires. There are some great deals on Summits now, and Odysseys, which were a heap new, can be found for ~2K.
