Dann, are these voiced the same as the reference line? e.g. suppose someone wanted a bedroom system and had ERM-6.2 accross the front but wanted to use the in wall or ceiling at the rear, would the sound match up?

It's not the exact same woofer, but Vance did the voicing, so I'm assuming they work ok together, but perhaps be a bit different sounding...I haven't had a chance to hear a mixed set like that yet. I would guess that we'll get a lot of mix/match stuff going on from customers, though. I would expect it, anyway.

Yeah, the tweeter is exactly the same, and the voicing techniques were the same. 'Full Range' means they're not set to roll off at 80hz, like the current ERM monitors. I haven't heard most of these yet...they're still in preproduction, although the drivers and crossovers are set. Dan L. said the ported designs were 'very carefully' done to extend the lows, but not go to mush.
We did get overwhelmings requests over the past year for smaller full range speakers, and Dan talked to quite a few folks himself before deciding to do a ported design.

Dann,
any specs for the cabinet size of the UOMs? What are the drivers made out of? I am suspecting that for outdoor use, they would have to be either waterproof or at least water resistant. Also, would they be able to withstand a saltwater marine environment???

The bracket knobs are right at half an inch high. The shape of the cabinet swells a bit in the center and tapers on the ends...not a lot, but a bit. At the widest point its 8 and 5/8". Back to front is 7 and 5/8".

any pictures yet to post? No, sorry. Hopefully we will soon. We have UOM and UAW/UAC protos in the house, but they aren't final as far as the look, and Dan wants to wait. We've asked for up to date renderings on the towers, LCRs, etc., and hope to get those next week, after the holidays.

Also, would they be able to withstand a saltwater marine environment??? The drivers are a fiber composite along the lines of our reference series, thought not exactly the same. And they are 'water resistant', not waterproof. The port will have a protective foam plug which will help keep out moisture, but not interfere with the port. We are going to recommend they be put under shelter of some kind, even if it is minimal. Just weighed one. About 6.5 lbs.

Looks like I will have to keep looking. I have waterproof speakers and head unit, on the boat now from Polyplanar, which is a marine audio company, but they just don't have enough oooooomffff for me.

but they just don't have enough oooooomffff for me. Easiest way to add "oooomfff" is add an amplifier. Or two.

Maybe in the 2 years I've been on dry dock, maybe there's some new stuff in store for me. Guess I'll find out next month should I decide to go to the NY Boat Show.

Re: the in-wall and in-ceiling speakers, will they be open backed (designed to be infinite baffle), or made with a back-box / sealed enclosure?

How will the USD-5 differ from the current ERD-1? From the description it sounds like it will be fixed on dipole and not switchable like the ERD-1. Will it have a similar mounting plate or will it use keyhole cutouts?
I'd really love to see a small 2 way design for surround duty. Maybe something small enough so that it could also sit on a desk and act as computer speakers. Something small and cheap that could be used as "presence" or "DSX Wide" or any of the other new strange channels popping out of the wood works these days.

What is the Ohm rating, 4 or 8? I love my setup, and would love to tell others about the Emo speakers, but there are not many guys out there that can run 4 ohm speakers.

I am interested for outdoor (uncovered) applications that can stand up to Wisconsin winters. I am also interested in outdoor speakers for some relatives in other geographic locations. Thanks. Mike

Will the USD-5 have a rear port? I would think it would make more sense to have them top or bottom ported. Let us know when you know thanks.
