Brian was such a great guy, He took his time to explain in detail about his subs. He offered us drinks and even burned a cd for Rather. He also handed us the remote so we can play around with everything.
The The D15SE sounded so smooth and clean, I didnt get the chance to actually see the full potential of the sub thou. I should have turned up the bass a bit more but I didn't want to mess with his settings. I myself like alot of BASS with my music.

I wish I was close enough to make the trip with you. Texas is juuuust a little too far away from PA. The subs sound like a great fit for me. By the way....Iron Maiden ROCKS! I've seen them live, I think, eight times. Awesome live band. They sound fantastic and put on a great show every time.

Did you get something from one of their album covers or did you get something custom? KILLERS Cool! I don't do tattoos. But if I did, it would have to be Number of the Beast. Man, I love that cover. I almost paid to have that cover custom painted on a motorcycle helmet. I finally decided not to go to all the trouble and expense, but I was thiiiis close. ;D

Rather, did you get the chance to compare the 12 with the 15? If so, what are your thoughts? Rythmic is the only sub on my shortlist along with Emo's subs. Good choice in going with the front firing one. How many subs are you planning to buy? we only heard the 15s. actually the 12 that we saw was a prototype (this is the 12 inch version of the downfiring SE) at this time I plan to buy only one sub but I suspect that may morph into a second sub down the line

How stable were the stands for the mains (in the picture)? They looked similar in size to the 6.3s so I'm thinking they might work for those. If they seemed solid, I wonder whose stands they are? Thanks! the stands did not have spikes but I suspect they would be quite stable. I can check on the brand.

I got back quite late from my trip to Austin as we did a side trip to visit oneliterpeter so I didn't get home until 9:15 and lots of work to do at the house. I will provide a more detailed sets of observations tonight (including equipment list) when I return from work but here are some of my take away points. The downfiring 15"SE is one bad ass sub. Incredibly clean, accurate and uncolored. Brian Ding really knows what he's doing with this Direct Servo thingy which he tried to explain to the two 3-year olds in the roomk (Pitbull and I) but it went right over our heads. Up close in personal, this is an absolutely gorgeous sub and the pics don't do it justice. While I loved the downfiring model, I think I will go with the front firing (F15). Although I have a dual system that does 50/50 music and movies, if I have to make a choice, I need a sub that is more suited for music, and Brian suggested the front firing (his models, anyway) are a better choice. The F15 is a very compact sealed design and will come in the piano gloss finish if I can wait until March (I can). Bottom line Rythmik subs are excellent choices for either HT or music. I promise more detailed observations and pictures soon. From my trip, I came to trust Brain Ding of Rythmik, trust that he truly knows what he's doing, trust that he's in this for the long haul, and trust that he's honest as they come. Truly an audiophile with a passion for what he does best . . . that kinda reminds me of someone . . . ;D Hey rather, did he mention why you would have to wait until March for the gloss black F15? Also, did you ask why the F15 in gloss black is $50 more than the D15SE? Is it strictly size, or is there some other electronic or mechanical difference I haven't seen listed? The D15SE is $999. The F15 is $1049. Oh yeah, did he mention a forum group discount? he said something about being ot of stock on certain parts. I think he gets restocked in February though. march was my arbitrary date. As far as why the F15 in gloss black is more than the SE, that's a great question; I didn't ask but I will send a note to Brian

At $1500 or a few hundred less your can score a mint condition used or on occasion a new Revel B15A. Lets talk new from an ID company as I am not going to go the used route from over here in Ireland - too risky I think. Thanks.

Agreed, except for the most recent concert I went to (about 3 years ago) when they were in "The Point" in Dublin and the sound was awful - we left after 15 mins. Why oh why do they have to have everything so loud that the amps are clipping and you can't hear the music. (Plus the acoustics in that place suck, ringing, reverb, muddy sound etc.).

Well i placed my order for a F12SE. They are definitely backordered though for 6 weeks so keep that in mind for those that want one NOW. Also I read on the Rythmik thread on AVS that the prices will be going up a bit ($50 i think).

You don't have to go out of your way to send him a note. I'll call to ask him myself. I just thought it may have come up in your meeting with Brian. Thanks for everything.

Hey pitbullmike did you play any Maiden through that 15? ;D LOL unfortunately I didnt, I dont think the owner or Rather are into the Maiden Yeah after talking to the owner , I would tend to agree he is probably not a maiden fan. However , they still do have a large following in the Orient. LOL.

LOL unfortunately I didnt, I dont think the owner or Rather are into the Maiden you stand corrected . . . I actually saw Maiden in concert with their original singer Paul Day (aka Paul Di'Anno) and twice with Bruce Dickenson . . . I still have several albums on vinyl Stud I only saw them once on the "Live or Death " tour. Awesome!

For those who are interested and have asked, please see my journal notes compiled from my visit with Brian Ding of Rythmik Subs. Also, I apologize for the crummy pics from my cell phone. Thankfully, Pitbull brought a real camera. We arrived embarrassingly 30 minutes late to Brian Ding’s spacious home in west Austin. I was pissed at myself because it was my fault we were behind schedule and I knew that Brian had made arrangements for his wife and kids to be out of the house. Brian was unfazed by it all though. We quickly proceeded to his upstairs demo room. His equipment used in the demo was a Denon 4808 receiver and the stunningly wonderful Ayre CD player (wow, was that good). Ascend Acoustics were the speakers. Pitbull has the cables list but I think they were Discovery interconnects and some power cables called Black Sand. Brian used a silver Kimber Cable interconnect from the sub to the Denon. holy Christ, this is one hell of a player . . . the Ayre C-5xe universal disc player wide shot of the set up The play list was as follows - Jessica Williams Heather from Live at Yoshi’s Vol 1,
- Jethro Tull’s Skating on the Thin Ice of the New Day from War Child,
- Knocked Up by Kings of Leon on Sign of the TimesAutumn
- Leaves from Cannonball Adderley’s Something Else
- Toccata from Mannheim Steamroller Fresh Air III
- Deacon Blues from Steely Dan’s Aja
- Poison Girl and the title track from Living with the Law by Chris Whitley
Without specifically getting into each tune, I found the D15SE to exhibit wonderful accurate bass and controlled bottom end. The thump seemed to come from all angles no matter where I stood and pinpointing the source of the sub (if I closed my eyes) was practically impossible from the sweet spot position. The low notes were quite open and clear and had a clean character to it. No muddiness here. After we went through my play list, Brian suggested we try it in a front firing configuration and he played the sub on its side. That was all I needed to hear to know the F15 was my choice. The sound seemed to thunder in the room without changing the volume knob. It become more enveloping and took on another dimension: richness and warmth. Prior to my arrival Brian called me asking if I had a preference between movies and music. Interesting question, I thought. I told him that my system was truly an all-in-one dual system with an even split between movies and music. That said, I told him that if I had to make sacrifices, that I would strongly prefer a sub for music over movies. When we arrived he elaborated that – in his experience – he felt his side firing subs are a bit more suited for music while the down firing Rythmik models slightly favor home theater. I was so stunned at the marvelous performance if oneliterpeter’s down firing Dynamo sub that I was initially interested in Brian’s D15SE. And I was totally impressed with the quality but it was another thing altogether with the front firing configuration. For those of you that care, Brian hold a doctorate in Electrical Engineering and has had his company for 6 years. After spending 90 minutes with him, I can say without hesitation that he knows what he is doing and - equally important for me - that Brian is honest as the day is long. He is not interested in sacrificing long term success and his own personal ethics for short term sales. the beast on its side After I heard a subset of the original playlist in the side firing configuration, the amiable Brian suggested we listen to a special track of his that he likes to use in demoing his subs. He put in something I never heard previously, Hok-Man Yim (Deputy Director of the Hong Kong Orchestra) Poems of ThunderWOW! Was this fantastic!!!!! Poem of Chinese Drum was a stunning track for subwoofer demos The Genius behind it all I can't wait for my little monster . . . ;D
