I have a Onkyo 805 and use the auto setup to set my system up and it does great on the high end but I was wondering if it does a good enough job on my low end or do you think I would benefit from using something like the Behringer Feedback Destroyer DSP-1124P? If this has been asked before please point me in the right direction.

Personally, I've not been a fan of any of the automated calibration systems. Too often people get mixed results. I have a BFD and it makes a big difference, but you need to take the time to learn how to do it. REW is a great tool to help with this... but plan on doing it a few times (at a couple hours each time) to get it right. While the software is easy to use, it still had me scratching my head a few times. Which of course leads to "did I make a tiny mistake?" After doing it 3 times now - my attempt 3 equalled (pretty close) my attempt 2 so I feel confident I have it nailed. Of course once I get the UMC-1, I plan to see if I can eliminate the BFD... 1 less component in the chain. Oh yeah, another negative of the BFD - some people have ground loop noise when they add the BFD. I did... but with some work (better cabling) I was able to eliminate it.

Thanks for the input. Do you think once you use the UMC-1 that it will do good enough to loose the BFD? Just wondering why are you not a big fan of auto calibration have you had problem with it in the past?

I don't know if it will be good enough or not. It has an equalizer, just not sure if it's "enough" of one to eliminate the BFD. The autoeq functions usually make mistakes - set speakers to wrong sizes, determine polarity is backwards, guess the speaker distance is wrong, etc. Usually give it a try and then delete and do my own. Generally speaking, I'd rather tweak it myself - then I know it's right

The auto-EQ function works well. It's the auto-crossover settings that seem to have issues. I eliminated a Velodyne SMS-1 from my subwoofer system because the EQ from the UMC-1 was just about as good - good enough in my system to eliminate the box. YMMV.

Wow, that is good information Doctor David. I will keep that in mind when my XMC-1 shows up. The money I could get from selling my SMS-1 would partially fund the possibly increased price on the XMC-1. Thanks. ;D

I have two 805 s and, Audyssey makes my system lifeless. Every time I ran Audyssey it set my 5 1/4" surrounds at full range and, my sub at - 15 db. I let it run initial setup then pull out the meter / measuring tape and, adjust to suit my taste. You can go into menu 2: speaker setup and, play with the X over points/ EQ. Under equalizer setting choose manual and, you can EQ each channel to taste including the sub.

Yep, I also have an 805 and a 906, don t waste your time with Audessy. Set your xover points and eq up manually. That 805 is a solid piece with alot of flexibility.
