I'm not sure how it is supposed to sound but I can tell you that we have some crazy loud commercials and it has made a big difference with them. I just wish I could have it always on for tv and always off for movies. I need to figure out how to make it easier to switch. With a macro perhaps?

Can you do macro's with the Harmony one? Yes, it is a bit cumbersome, but apparently can be done. See this link. Not sure the link will work, so here's what it says:

I was saying that UMC-1 doesn't have Dolby Volume in it...I'm not sure if I have the most updated firmware(i.e. Feb release), but I don't have dolby volume anywhere under the menu...Where do I find it in the menu?

Dolby volume is on all units, but it is buried in the menu for "set-up" as I recall. You can wait for the new remote as it will have a button just for D/V. That is the way it should have been all along as I will only select it when watching TV.
The new remote will add one button ease to a lot of things that now require searching the menu now.

I seem to remember it being located in the parameters menu. It isn't obvious, but the list of parameters is longer than what is listed - you have to keep moving the selection down and the list will scroll to reveal it.

It is the last one in parameters so when you go into it hit the up arrow and it will scroll backwards from the first to last. That makes it a little quicker. I don't have HDMI for TV so I get no on screen OS which makes it harder to switch.

Some new measurements with the v6 firmware (uncorrupted install not confirmed!). Measurement signal is white noise (that's why it looks a little bumpy). UMC-1 volume setting from top to bottom is 80, 70, 60, 50 (reference), 40, 30, 20, 10: When compared to what it should look like, it becomes obvious why some have experienced "muddy" sound: Best, Markus

That chart appears to show an implementation tha isn't even close to the reference curves....what am I missing?

Three possibilities: - Broken UMC-1 due to corrupted firmware upgrade - Wrong implementation in UMC-1 - Dolby Volume code itself uses the wrong contours
