that picture is terrible. Can't you take a shot from directly above with good lighting and no flash?

that picture is terrible. Can't you take a shot from directly above with good lighting and no flash? Yeah but even with a less than stellar picture you can see how much of an improvement it is over the original. 1000 percent +++

is this some easy money for emo or is that a replacement free of charge? will this be included in all new shipments? I wouldn't call it easy money. Emotiva expressed early on that to keep the cost low on the UMC-1 they would not include a high quality remote. Many people have asked for the option of buying one. That's what this will be, an optional accessory you can purchase separately for your UMC-1. The existing remote will remain the standard. I think I have been relatively open about my views on the UMC-1, many of them not exactly favorable, but for its price point and features, it's spot on, actually it's under-priced. The remote it ships with is fine, and this is an upgrade. I think this makes good sense for both the consumer and the manufacturer.

Because of the code overlap mistake, reportedly this will be sent out free of charge to those who already own the USP-1 as well as the UMC-1. Can't wait to get mine so the USP-1 can be properly returned to my system.

Can't wait to get the code overlap issue straightened out.

Boy, if that's the new remote I'd hate to see the old one. I'm always underwhelmed by how thought goes into the design of a remote. Considering it's your main interface with the equipment I would think it worth manufacturers taking a bit more care. Do they just pick a generic remote of the 'remote sellers' shelf and have it 'coded' to their equipment, or is each one designed afresh for each model? Why do they stick to the regular long slab shape? Some of the better ones I've used have irregular shapes (particularly the sides). More thought into the groupings and size/shape/colour of buttons too. The Tivo remote (for example) isn't a bad design (could be better). Bad remote: technabob.com/blog/2007/10/05/art-lebedevs-pultius-remote-is-ridiculous/I know most people's response is 'get a Logitech Harmony' (or similar). I have tried two, but never really liked them, because there is always that one button you want that is hidden way into the menu system.

I could care less if it is backlit, shaped like a perfect 10 and emits the smell of fresh baked cookies...... I would have loved to have my hands on this when my unit arrived last month. Would have made programming my MX-880 a breeze and saved me about 6 hours of work.
Stinks that this remote did not come with the unit up front but it is very nice when a company recognizes a problem and rectifies it. If anyone is unhappy with any remote that came with their system and needs some help taking control of their system - PM me for info on some excellent options from URC, Phillips Pronto or Nevo - be happy to hook you up:)
Best Regards, JD

I know most people's response is 'get a Logitech Harmony' (or similar). I have tried two, but never really liked them, because there is always that one button you want that is hidden way into the menu system. The soft-key and touch screen menus can be customized and rearranged to suit your preferences and key arrangements.

I'm not feeling the love for the remote. What else was expected? Is this a step up form the one that comes with the UMC? Wonder what the price will be?

If you've actually picked up a remote like this, you'd know that it is s-o-l-i-d. It is not in the same class as the one that shipped with the UMC-1 which was lightweight and "flimsy". So they listened and produced a sturdier remote. No, it's not a universal remote so you can't rearrange/remap softkeys. No, it is not RF-capable either. And it won't take my dog for a walk, although I'd be more comfortable with the dog fetching it for me as it is... sturdy!
The original remote helped keep the cost down. With the savings a universal remote can be purchased.
AFAIK, those with a USP-1 and a UMC-1 will get the remote free of charge because of the code-sharing issue.

Well if this remote is a replacement for the current ones(which mine is broken) and not an APril fool's day joke, I would expect to hear word from Dan or Lonnie..............nothing from either of them.
