He said if you are having problems, to CALL EMO AND TALK TO THE SUPPORT FOLKS, THAT'S WHAT THEY ARE THERE FOR.) What about the support folks not answering emails? Probably they don't have time to answer them because they are taking care of the phone calls. ;D (I'm just the messenger.. he didn't ask me to post this but he did say that people should call if they are having problems and ask him or the support team for help).

I have one and I don't have any plans on getting rid of it.
I have always planned on moving it into my bedroom setup once the XMC-1 comes out. So for me the UMC-1 is a great way to familiarize myself with this series of pre/pros before the "top-of-the-line" unit hits the market.
As I look at it, Emotiva has hit a home run with this product. It actually does more than was originally promised when the idea for this product was made public. It has gone through many changes since I was on the pre-order list and I'm glad I stuck it out to be one of the first (actually the first) product delivered to the public.

Having read some of the recent posts on the v6 firmware, I think I made the right choice.

After letting myself gain some persective, I'm 95% sure I will NOT be sending the UMC back. I really do like it, and now that I've found a workaround for my dish issue, I'm pretty happy.
*Note, I still haven't tried any BD or DVDs, so if something is messed up there I will have to re-evaluate the situation again. I also haven't tired dish via HDMI, which may also help, with the audio dropouts.

I won't be returning yet, but I'm still on the fence. Truth is I want to keep it as there are many things I like about it. It's just the little annoying things that are bothering me. The audio dropouts are the biggest problem for me. I was really hoping that this was fixed in V6 and to hear that it is now worse? Yikes. I'll be staying with V5 firmware at least.
I need a vote for "Have UMC, but still undecided depending on V7 update".

Keep in mind that the XMC-1 is not planned to be the top of the line. It's more the upper middle. There are plans for a no-cost top-of-the-line processor, but it is not the XMC-1. It will also be much more expensive than the XMC-1. How much more? No idea.

I haven't upgraded to the v6 firmware (I will this Friday) but I plan on keeping mine at this time. The UMC-1 has quirks, but it sounds great, better than my previous receiver.
I have faith that Emotiva will be able to iron out the issues with this processor, but I agree with others that the QA process needs some work. Maybe they need to recruit some volunteers for Beta testing.

I am a 40%er, have been on the waiting list for ever. When and if my turn comes up I will pass at this point unless there is some miraculous fix to all the issues, I just don't want to deal with issues or deal with my wife when she has issues with the gear. I am certainly hoping for a fix though, but again I am not going to roll the dice right now.

Also, I had the impression that v6 is "it" as far as firmware update is concerned in the near future. Finally, I actually wanted to keep it to no more than four choices but I thought that a couple more choices would make the poll and the ensuing discussion a bit more informative.

I was disappointed with the v6 firmware... I really have two issues; handshaking with my HTPC that produces real intermittent behavior and my Fios box locking up ocassionally with a "DVI" error. It's a pain - as to resolve I typically have to use both the Harmony and the provided Emotiva remote to workaround. I also probably read a little into the improvement "General housekeeping work on system code for overall improved stability and speed." hoping for some improved speed when moving between sources. Overrall it's pretty likely I'm going to keep the UMC-1 but it has been a lesson and I've definitely not earnt brownie points from the missus.... Especially as what it's replacing never had these issues and the set-up was near on identical. However, I'm patient and see the potential. SQ it's definitely been worth it but ease of use has been a struggle... My only hope is that the next FW update isn't so big. I look at the issues out there and I'd sooner see more regular monthly drops that people can take. I'm not even sure if it's possible but I'd like to see it

The WAF and KAF are the main reasons I am holding back on going ahead. The real killers would be general instability (misbehaving volume etc) and audio dropout on blu-ray. At the moment the only other HDMI sources i might use is the XBox 360.
I need two units eventually and I might take a chance on one now with a Denon 2310 as a backup and for use in my second room when it is rebuilt.

Let's name it the XRC-1, X for balanced, R for reference, C for controller The XPR-7 will be 2500$. Hence, 2500$ for the XRC would be realistic, maybe slightly less. I hope it can do the same as the Rotel RSP-1580, which will have 4x4 video matrix, was promised for January 2010, is in the on-line price-list of several dealers for 4500$/€, but still no sign of the actual thing..

There is no option that addresses my situation; * I don't have the UMC-1 and I'm not sure if I will be getting one or wait for the future XMC-1! So my final vote is: None of the above.

Man, this is difficult. It is a case of high-risk, high-reward again. And I still have nightmares from my "trading days" in 2000. Of course, we are talking about $700 and not tens of $Ks so it shouldn't hurt as much except for our very high expectations of all Emo products. That cost me half million dollars back then, from my own money! ...I did recover though, but in different ways, and with the depth of the abyss constantly looking over me.

Should Emo cut their losses & run away ala Parasound/Outlaw? No way, not with Emo having lots of guts and heart!

Should Emo cut their losses & run away ala Parasound/Outlaw? No way, not with Emo having lots of guts and heart! Agree. But we also don't want them to lose most of their guts and hearts in one product. As some economists would advise, never make decisions based on sunk costs.

So I talked to Vince this morning and he had me reflash in Safe+Network mode (to avoid any interruptions of the communications).
He was VERY professional with my irate call (I apologize Vince) and the reflash seems to have worked wonderfully.
I have changed my vote to "@!#^& yes, I am keeping this"

I agree. My guess is less than 3K, but more than 2K. It has to be more expensive than a couple hundred dollars more than the XMC-1, but Emotiva really doesn't go way out there for prices.
