I have been a fan of high quality audio for about 15 years, but due to finances and priorities have had to sit on the side lines using hand me down consumer grade gear.
Having researched equipment for about 2 years, I am finally beginning the long journey to building a system that should sound amazing but that fits within my budget. The first step for me is the XPA-2 amp, my first Emotiva purchase which arrived yesterday.
Please don't laugh, the XPA-2 is replacing an old Fisher CA-283 receiver and is currently paired with Jensen JHS 1533's. I will hopefully be replaced with some Magnepan 1.7's later this year (or possibly MG 12's since they have a better WAF). A friend of mine has had Maggies since the 70's, and I love their transparent sound.
As for the XPA-2, all I can say is WOW! This thing is simply dead quiet, has fabulous dynamics, and very tight bass. Amazing! The improvement was so dramatic that my wife even commented about how good it sounds within the first 20 seconds it was playing, and she doesn't usually have an ear when it comes to these things.
The build and sound quality of the XPA has made me one dedicated owner, and I now have no doubt that the preamp for our system will be the USP-1.
Keep up the great work Emotiva!

That is so awesome! I just got my XPA-2 a few days ago and I am driving Maggie 1.6s. I have to think that when you get your Maggies you will be blown away. That will probably be your biggest change to the performance of your system. Speakers usually are. Congrats again and welcome.

Find your nearest Magnepan dealer. If you have to drive a couple hours, DO IT. Take your wife and listen to the 1.7's and the 12's. After doing this my wife insisted I get the larger speakers. She doesn't like the look, and isn't an audiophile, and usually wants me to spend the least amount of money possible. But she was blown away (as was I) by the sound. Oh, and I'm driving mine with an XPA-5. Sounds great!!!

Ah... hahahahahahaha! Fisher!
Nah, I'm just messin'. Couldn't resist with the "please don't laugh". I've had my XPA-2 for two years now, and just love everything it delivers. Congrats on the purchase, and welcome to the lounge.
