I’m thinking of buying an XPA-5,—does Emotiva have any discount/special for 1st time buyers?

You could also call them and ask about "B" stock. It may not look as good as new but it will sound the same. I may do that for an XPA-2.

I second erict on the B stock. I recently picked up B stock XPA-5 and UMC-1 and wouldn't have been able to tell the difference if "B stock" wasn't stamped on the outside of the cardboard boxes.

You would never be able to tell "B" stock from "A" stock That's even better! However, there must be something cosmetically different with it for it to be labeled "B" stock. Therefore it is best to assume that there might be something noticeable (however slight or likely unseen when placed in the rack/stand/cabinet). I doubt seriously that it would have, say, a scratch down to the metal on the faceplate. I was really looking forward to getting a XPA-2 at Emofest but other family obligations called and, though it was the best time to buy one, it wasn't the best time for me.

actually,
b-stock is any item sent back for any reason. replacement within the 30 days if there is a problem..... or any item that might have needed repair but was replaced for the customer....... any item sent back before the 30 day trial is over......... etc..........
therefore...the items could be in perfect cosmetic condition. btw...they check every b-stock item for proper operability before it is resold. so...you can probably get a b-stock item that looks and operates as if it is brand new. and remember....they still tack on the 5-year warranty on top of that.
can't go wrong with a b-stock. better than buying used on the emporium and sometimes cheaper.

btw.....
for all of those who think that emotiva has this huge backlog of items sent back by the dissenting public.....let me tell you a story.
when i went to the emofest i brought along my umc-1 to get updated to the newest fw/sw. walking through the stock area you saw hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of boxes of new product. in one area was a small pile of boxes marked b-stock and i noticed that the varying items were few and far between. i thought maybe they might be in a different secret location. when i 'checked in' my item that afternoon sarah had me sit in an office area while she processed the item and lo and behold on the 'whiteboard' was a list of all b-stock items and how many needed to be resold. first, not every emo item was there and second, they were all in the single digits. some items having only a couple to be sold.
sounds to me like most people, when they put the gear into the system, don't want to give up the equipment. i certainly don't.
just my two farthings..........

I know that they'll have to pry my XPA-5 from my cold dead fingers (unless there's something even better out there for me that I can afford).

For instance, the following items are what I got for $3K during the July sale: Item Number Each Total UPA-1 3 $296.00 $888.00 L/C/R UPA-2 1 $269.00 $269.00 (back-order) UPA-5 1 $494.00 $494.00 (for dear son's music room) UPA-7 1 $629.00 $629.00 (whole-house audio - one of 2) UMC-1 1 $649.00 $649.00 (b-stock $50 off)
