My UPA-1's are powering some PSB towers and there's plenty of power to spare. Personally I don't see the need for 350 watts versus 200 watts when at most you're using maybe 100 of what's available and most often less unless you're trying to use your speakers as fans to stir the air. The other thing to consider is, if your speakers are bi-wirable, the UPA-1 makes it easy with it's two output connectors and coupled with the fact it's a monoblock, adds another level of clarity. I like the bi-wiring option but I just a spent bunch of money on some Calabrine 2 into 4 bi-wire speaker cable : ( so probably wouldnt use that feature for a while .

The UPA-1s into my ERM-6.3s are not lacking in oomph, my ears would definitely give out first and they seem to have plenty or reserve. Much easier to move around than the XPA-5 which is a similar weight to the XPA-2. A major consideration if you have to pay lots of shipping charges. I think shipping is the same but would be much cheaper if ever needed warranty work to send back and options for were up going to put them is much better to .

I listened to the UPA-1's and the XPA-1's on an A/B switch at Axpona...hooked up to a pair of 8.3's....in that scenario I thought the UPA-1's sounded like crap.... your gonna have to decide on something and see how they sound ...problem is....your gonna always wonder what the other amp sounded like...if you can: order em both and see how they sound on your speakers...thats the nature of buying audio gear on the web...its why Emotiva offers the 30 day return...they understand you have to audition...

Im actualy now considering instead getting one XPA-1 to power my center and using my current xpa-3 to power my front left and right and then in a few months order another XPA-1 so when the smoke clears i'll be running two XPA-1's for my 2 channel pleasure front left and right and use my xpa-3 to power my center and rear surrounds . If im not happy with that configuration I dont think i'll ever be lol . BTW What was your take on the XPA-1 that you demoed ?

Well....my friend was there to hear the 8.3's....on the second day demo, we were listening to some music we brought and really didn't like the sound coming from the 8.3's...my buddy was ready to walk out...i picked up the a/b switch and pushed it...both of us looked at each other like.."what was that"...the 8.3's came alive on the XPA-1's....he ended up buying instead of walking away....At the time he owned an XPA-2 and an XPA-5 for his home system...He was running Monitor Audio towers....because the 8.3's seemed power hungry..he purchased an additional XPA-2 at the show...so he could bi-amplify the new 8.3's....
At Emofest...He dropped off the 2 XPA-2's for service....he left with 2 XPA-1's...He's planning on selling the XPA-2's when they get home...The XPA-1's sound beautiful....He even considered waiting for the XPR-2....but after our talk with Lonnie...He convinced him to buy the XPA-1....Lonnie said the sound is amazing out of the XPA-1's...We got the impression that even with the upcoming XPR series, Lonnie's choice is the XPA-1....
Just food for thought...

I have owned 2 xpa-1's and I must say they are awesome. In fact I may buy them again one day when I have the cash. I now have just the xpa-3 AND I could hear a huge difference when running them on my Polk rtia9's. Its hard to explain but the xpa-1's made the speakers sound totally different. BETTER. Way more dynamic and brought out so much bass I swear I thought I had a sub in my system. If you can afford the xpa-1's get them and never look back.

Like cgolf ive had all sorts of Emo amps (XPA-2, XPA-3, UPA-2, UPA-1, RPA-2) run through my LS6's. To me, in my room with my gear, the UPA-1's have been the best amp. They seem to have the best blend of music and HT performance. That being said, I might be selling them, so hit me up if you're interested. LOL! ;D

You are absolutely right. It's all a matter of personal taste & preferences. But honestly, you really can't go wrong with whatever amp you choose to go with.

I have a pair of UPA-1s enroute to me as I type this. I have wanted a pair since their release. Very excited to get them in my rig. I have no choice but to split 2ch. music listening and home theater between one system, so I think this new set-up will work nicely: Currently using XPA-3 for L/C/R. UPA-1 will now handle duties for L/R, and XPA-3 will run LS/C/RS. I don't really think my side surrounds need 200W of XPA power, but I would never neglect that power from my center channel, so the surrounds get it by default.

The first XPA-2 had been sent in over a red light staying on constantly...after it was returned...it came back on again...still played fine...just annoying The second one (the newer one)...kept going into complete fault mode every time it was turned on...

It may well depend on what speaker you are driving, I would fully expect an XPA-1 (at 3x the price of a UPA-1) driving a harder load to sound better than a UPA-1. But would you notice as much difference with an easier load (e.g. 6.2, 6.3 etc.), especially when paired with a good sub and rolling off around 80Hz? You can buy an ERM-6.3 + UPA-1 for almost the same price as one XPA-1 ...
