I have seen reviews and they were not bad ,but from reading posts on here about the UMC-1 there seems to be alot of problems with audio loss and other little things,,have they fixed any of these issues? i also noticed they have a update in here also,as i have seen from people talking,it seems as even with the last update there is still problems, starting to second guess my decision now to go with the combo setup. Dave Don't let a few disgruntled people scare you off from the UMC-1. There is no doubt that some owners were having problems with the early versions of the Firm Ware. With the constant upgrades on the FW the bugs have been fixed and with the latest version of the FW the UMC-1 is very stable and only has two or three remaining issues, those being minor problems that new FW releases will fix in the next few weeks. Many owners have not had any of the issues you have seen discussed on the forum. I have had mine since early January and have not experienced any of the issues. The only problem I encountered was a IR remote control code overlap between the USP-1 and the UMC-1. Emotiva has since issued the fix for this and at this point my UMC-1 is running perfect. The couple of remaining issues are only experienced by a few owners and Emotiva has said they are working on the FW to fix those, probably within a few weeks. At that point there will be no remaining issues. The vast majority of us are very happy with our UMC-1. The one thing you need to know about Emotiva is that they have superb customer service and tech support. Emotiva has establish a reputation for going above and beyond in making their customers happy with their purchases. If a couple of those posting have given you pause, I suggest you contact Lonnie Vaugn and get the scoop directly from Emotiva's chief technology engineer. Lonnie's posts over the past couple of weeks should be able to put you at ease. On top of that, you will have a 30-day trial period on all purchases you make. If you find the UMC-1 is not for you, Emotiva will give you a no questions asked refund.

While some fans seem to have all the answers, I personally would not consider it worth $100 to jump on this wagon until all the fixes are in and documented. If they are going to come in the next few weeks as suggested I would simply wait until they are in. I originally came to Emotiva looking few a new pre/pro. After reading all the issues I decided to pick up a used MMC-1 and wait for the fixes. That was 7 months ago. I will say the MMC-1 sound is great!

The Emotiva MMC-1 was an excellent pre/pro. That is what I was using when I bought my UMC-1. The MMC-1 was one of the best sounding processors on the market and I even considered just buying a video processor to add HDMI 1.3 to its arsenal. I kept that possibility in mind when I placed the UMC-1 into my HT system. Had the UMC-1 not been able to perform at a high level I would have returned it and followed through by adding the VP to the MMC, but I found the UMC-1 was able to handle all of my source components without any issues and was a step up from the sound quality provided by the MMC-1.
If Dave feels uneasy going with the UMC-1 until the final remaining issues have been fixed I see no problem waiting the few weeks for the FW updates to be released. My only concern with that is he would not be able to use his UPA-5 during that waiting period nor could he finish building the rest of his HT. With the latest FW release, most users are reporting they no longer have any significant issues with their UMC's.
At this stage it is unlikely Dave would have any issues with the current FW level so buying now would allow him to enjoy his UPA-5 and complete fleshing out his HT. He would have the 30-day Trial to protect him in case he did encounter a problem. It would also give Dave a chance to see how he liked the UMC's user interface and its superb audio performance. There is very little downside potential involved and a great deal upside from enjoying his new purchase.
I don't know how patient Dave is. If he would not be concerned about waiting a few weeks until the final FW updates have been made, then I agree that it would be the safest path to take. However, with Emotiva's return policy he has very little to be concerned with as he could always return it should it not meet his needs.
Where Dave appears to be a little uneasy about the current state of the UMC-1 is why I suggest that he contact Lonnie and discuss any concerns he may have. Lonnie can give him an accurate picture of what remains to be fixed, exactly what those issues are about and the prognosis for resolving the few remaining items. This way Dave has all the information that is important to him addressed by the one person who is in a position to give him all the facts.
I am very happy with my UMC-1 and will be keeping it even if no further FW updates are made... simply because the few remaining fixes have never been an issue with my UMC. This is the best performing component I have owned during my 45+ years in this hobby. ;D ;D ;D

At worst this is a guess, at best you have been told this by a employee of Emotiva. After following the UMC-1 saga for this last 7 months I would expect the he would be told that all the fixes are all ready in, have fun! However, as unfortunate as it is this would be strongly argued by many on this forum that are big fans of Emotiva. It is great that your unit has worked great for you but this is not the case for many users. As I said I came to Emotiva looking for a new pre/pro. I had been using a NAD T752 witha Carver AV505. The NAD was very glitchy and I had lived with it for about 6 years. It was very frustrating. I justed pointed out that he has the option, like me to continue to wait until he knows the waters are safe. The history on this product would indicate that wait could very easily be longer than the 30 day trail period. congratulation on 45 years in the hobby!

Wow, a great deal. I guess I should have waited since I ordered mine less than two weeks ago. Could have saved $175. Call Emotiva today. I bet you will be surprised. Surprised indeed. Best customer service I think I have ever dealt with. My hats off to the guys at Emotiva.

We got Canadians, Americans, Australians, ... and Emotiva amps. And all of them are excellent! My Lord, only 2 continents? I was referring to only 6 posts prior to mine! Of course, you can make this Worldwide!
