Hi there. I'm a big Sonos fan and have a few Emotiva pieces. I currently have a UPA-2 powering a couple of in ceiling Klipsch speakers for my office. The Sonos player is hooked in to the UPA-2 directly. I've been happy with the sound quality.
However I'm interested in the XPA-1 and would appreciate people's feedback. Is it worth it? My understanding is that Sonos streaming technology may mean I'm not getting the most out of a DAC.... Appreciate peoples opinions.

Well, the XDA-1 will have far better pre-amp abilities (discrete output stages) than the Sonos ZP. This doubtlessly improves the CD-quality content that your Sonos is outputting. But I don't think you will ever get proper HiFi out of in-ceiling speakers. So if I were you and I'd want better sound, I'd look for other speakers. Maybe some sweet little Dali's upside down hanging from the position of the in-ceilings. Or AVI ADM9.1, which work great with Sonos. Just saying.

Correct, the XDA-1.
Yeah I'm going to look at speakers as part of this. Thanks for the note.

Not every Zone Player has digital outs, so be aware of that. Also I believe there are bitrate limitations, but I haven't followed Sonos in a while.
