Ok, this relates to another post I had.
What is the best center speaker you've heard?
I've been Mirage for awhile, buy my wife doesn't like the 'omni polar' of the C2 - the sound is pretty 'diffuse'. Looking for a more 'direct' conventional center channel.
Thought I'd throw it out to the experts.

^^^
Ha,ha I love my HTM3s, with my 802N great match even thought they're a gen away.
But usually the center for me is the one that can't fit on top of my audio rack, in other words bordering full range speaker.

I have an HTM4S to go with my 804S and it is a great little speaker. But HTM3S would be better. I am keeping my eye out for a used one in Toronto area..

Thanks I should have put in a budget, for up to $2500.....what is the best sounding center?? "Best" is such a subjective idea... in general, the "best" sounding center channel speaker for any setup is the one that most closely matches your front left and right mains. Indeed, the "best" setups use three exact same speakers across the front. Trust your ears.

I know that.....
I'm willing to 'build' the L/R in my Home Theater around the center...most of the 'work' for HT is the center. I have a Zu Audio 2 channel set up that I love...now just working on the HT....

You need to go out and listen to some speakers, that is the only way to know what is best for you.

Looking for a more 'direct' conventional center channel. Thought I'd throw it out to the experts. Ideally, and a recommendation that has already been stated many times is having a center channel that is an "exact" match of your L/R and by that I mean a center channel that is going to be the same vertical design. The problem is, hence the rise of the horizontal center, because of practical space issues which unless you have a front projection system, the above ideal situation is not really possible. If you have the space, the next best thing would be to go to a large full-range horizontal model made by some manufacturers, primarily from companies like Paradigm, ED and the most recent model that was introduced that I personally purchased, the VP180 from Axiom which at 57 lbs and 40 inches in length is a monster too but at a little over $700 amongst the best value in this category. Once you have one of these large centers integrated in to your system, you will wonder why you didn't get one sooner.

If you mean $2500 total then the Revel Concerta line. C12 w/ F12s.

The most popular are MTMs laid on their side. This is about as bad a configuration as there is. Your better off laying a MT on its side. Of course some, Emotiva is one, put the tweeter above a bit rather than exactly between the mids. This tames the poor dispersion resulting from the mtms being on their side. I ended up hanging my TM above the tv. Its working well with some adjustment of the crossover delay because the T is farther away than the mid-woofer. I also put a damping sheet behind the tv.

Got to say, for the money, the ERM-6.3s are pretty sweet and you could get 3 of them under budget.
