Hey, jumping in a little late here but wanted to clarify something. The RCA and XLR outputs are all active and run independantly so you can use them all at the same time with no issues. The one thing you shouldn't do is use a Y cord or something like that to combine the Left and Right outputs to a mono signal. The reason you shouldn't do this is because of the discrete output stages, they were not designed to configured in this way. You can combine them, but you need to use an active configuration to do it.

I just ordered an XDA-1 which I will use with a subwoofer, so this is timely information. Since a Y cable is not recommended, should I just use the Left output, as an earlier post suggested? Just as a matter of curiosity, how is using only the left channel going to get all the bass to the subwoofer? Now I am using a Y cable and expect I'll probably have to increase the level of the subwoofer, since I expect the signal level will be lower using only a single channel.

Now I am using a Y cable and expect I'll probably have to increase the level of the subwoofer, since I expect the signal level will be lower using only a single channel. Very little bass is ever sent as anything other than a mono signal... even when you have both the R and L sending bass. You are only receiving the same nono signal from both connectors. Since the beginning of time (well almost) the bass content was always recorded in the L channel and this is the reason you use the L channel if your sub woofer only has a single input. There is no point in using a Y-cable to send the blended L and R channels to your sub because both are carring the exact same signal 99.9 percent of the time. If you sub has both L and R inputs you can hook up both channels if you want, but every sub I have ever seen works just as well hooking up just one channel. My Infinity has L and R connections and the owner's manual has a footnote saying that you can use either L or R if your pre/pro only has a single output. You can spend the extra money if you want for additional cable and connectors, but it will not help improve anything.

I have a 2.2 set up with the XDA.
XLR to each sub, & RCA to UPA-1s
It works......
