I posted earlier thinking that I would not be able to unload my MMC-1. As it turns out I was able to sell it for basically what a umc-1 will cost with the 40% upgrade. So I figured I will add a USP-1 to give me the phono section I need. I thought I would need a SACd Blu-ray player with 7.1 analog outputs but now it turns out I can get a player that will pass the SACD through the HDMI. I still would like a unit that has a good internal processor for SACD's but may be able to go less ecpensive than the new Oppo. Please advise.I don't need the 3d player ability 9or even all the network downloading stuff. I just want great sound. Thanks.

In the latest UK-based mag HiFiChoice, there was a group test. Being British, they choose to deny the fact that The Oppo BDP83SE-NE measured best. Instead, they chose the £400 Cambridge Audio 650BD, which happened to be British based (but also made in China obviously). No idea what it cost in USA. IMO, if you don't want to spend this kind of cash, I'd go for a used BDP83SE or get a cheaper player but connect via HDMI. Edit: found a review, price is $699. hometheaterreview.com/cambridge-audio-azur-650bd-blu-rayuniversal-player-reviewed/But if I read correctly, he only used HDMI. No mention of analogue connections. Maybe look for Marantz UD 5005 for $499. Should be fine. I'd go for the Oppo. New 93 or used 83. Don't forget you need the SE for superior analogue output. Or the upcoming 95. Edit2: Just found out the Cambridge Audio 650 BD is €799 over here in mainland EU. Thieves! £400 comes to less than €500. And the USA price should be around $630, not $700. Did I say: "Get the Oppo?"

How well would the cd's and sacd's play through the HDMI connection of the Processor. Is all the processing done in the preamp or in the player. If it does in the preamp I guess I would be OK going with a Sony or cheap Pioneer as they play SCAD through the HDMI connector.

If you only use HDMI, it's the pre-pro or AVR that's performing the DAC duties. I have HDMI for everything but CD, which is send to the CD inputs of the AVR via analogue. I need to hook up the multichannel analogues for best result. I"ll do that later. When I compare the 2ch SQ via the AVR from CD via analogue or via HDMI, the analogue is ever so slightly better and deeper, brighter. But this is the Nuforce Edition, with improved 2ch analogue playback over the "normal" SE.

One of the least expensive BD Players that has all the bells and whistles, as well as SACD, is the Sony BDP-570 at only $159. The review I read rated its SQ to be equal to the Oppo 83 and it is faster than the Oppo. Check out the Sony web site if it interests you.

I have the Sony BDP-S470 which is even cheaper and does pretty much everything the 570 will except no wireless. It does have hard wired connection, however. If you need wireless, get the 570, if not then the 470 will do fine.

Wow, I didn't know there is such a affordable player which can play SACD, plus all other functions including wireless connection. With $340 difference what other major things will lead to buying the new Oppo 93?(other than it plays PAL discs and has two hdmi output)

...the Sony's will not play DVD-As...but that may not be an issue with most folk. The Sony plays have a "cheapo" construction compared to the Oppo, but they perform well and can be controlled by your Iphone with a free app.

Thanks. Would there be sound and picture performance issues(I mean less quality) when using this Sony player for normal non-3D use? I won't watch 3D movies.

The Sony plays have a "cheapo" construction compared to the Oppo, but they perform well and can be controlled by your Iphone with a free app. 1. DVD Audio = Like you just said; not an issue with most folks. 2. Cheap build = No effect on what counts most; Video/Audio performance. 3. Use of iPhone/iPod touch as a remote (from download of free app on iTunes App Store) = Yup! > All of this for only $150! Oh, it also plays SACDs at 176.4 kHz (or is it 192 kHz?) from its HDMI output. - Faster loader on the planet! - Sony cool X-bar media GUI! ...Of course, it's a SONY! - Very low profile! - Solid Audio/Video Performance! - Built-in Wi-Fi (Wireless) and DLNA certified! - BD Live Profile 2.0 (internal memoy)! - HDMI v1.4 (3D now)! - Good upconverter of standard DVDs to 1080p! - And much much more... ** How much did I said it was? ...Oh ya, $150!

So there is no issues at all to play non-3D movies on this Sony? Man if it has same SQ & PQ as Oppo 83 then there is no reason to buy the new Oppo 93 The savings of $350 could buy tons of SACD ;D

The only glitch I got from the web is this Sony has unstable problem on Netflix streaming, which is important to me as I love Netflix's streaming

Well, that player was on my scope for quite a while, and at that price, not much to lose, so I'm getting it myself for Christmas!
