Got in about 6 hours burn in time with the XPA-2 yesterday. Packed well, HEAVIER than my old Bose 1801 (by a pound or two), and very easy on the eyes. I have been driving the 1.6QRs with a pristine Phase Linear 400 that sounded very articulate and can put out over 320W/ch at 4 ohms. Immediately after hooking up the XPA to the Maggies I could hear more clarity and a more pleasing overall sound WITH even a little more headroom. I have always been a fan or the best vintage gear (Marantz, Pioneer, Phase Linear, Yes even the Bose 1801, good amp really). But it is awesome to find a quality, new, affordable amp that can run with the amps that are probably 5-6 times the price. Listening to Eric Johnson's Bloom CD and thinking about which Emo product I will be buying next. I could not be happier! If you need an amp to drive solid with 4 Ohm loads like Magnepans take a serious look at this one. The only thing I would like to see would be an option for the large VU Meters with sexy blue backlights to make us feel like it was 1975 again.

Hey I have Up Close too! Awesome CD and Artist. Up Close has only been out a couple of weeks (Dec 7). Took long enough but it is a good one. I also have an EJ signature Strat with the bound rosewood board. We have seen Eric a lot here too in Austin Texas. He gets a lot of my money. I am going to start next week with the first pair of MMGs for the rear...Then I think I will buy an XPA-5 and a second set of MMGs for the surround back. I am using the pre amp of my Pioneer Elite THX receiver now. I also have the Velodyne 1800R II servo sub to go with the combo. Lots of people say big subs are not fast. This one blends in and is NOT sluggish. It is only running under 50Hz. I guess I am a Maggie user for life now for sure. ;D

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but had to chime in to say my XPA-2 does a great job with my older MG-IIIa's as well. I am using a pair of Rythmik (servo) subs, CC3 center, and Maggie MC1's for surrounds and rear. The center and surrounds/rears are running from an XPA-5, and the whole lot is driven by a Pioneer SC-27 used as a preamp. I listened to a couple of DD-series Velodynes (among others) but prefer the Rythmik. I am crossing over around 50 Hz using a dbx professional crossover unit so the AVR sees full-range L/R speakers. In fact, I am thinking of picking up another XPA-2 and bi-amping the Maggies as I did in years gone by. The value/performance ratio of the Emotiva line is just incredible...
