I'm surprised there is so little chatter in here about these? They seem to reset the bar for performance at the $2500 level......

There is a local dealer in town (you know, one of those "by appointment only" types) so I was thinking about grabbing some of the local Emotiva lounge members and heading in for a listen. Quite a few reviewers heaped high praise on them. Respectable pedigree, that's for sure.

I abhor those by appointment only shops because it exudes snobbery and elitism that I despise about this hobby but at least I get the chance to audition them. Hopefully, either Spursfan, Pantala, gluebben, or anyone else local is interested in going with me. As soon as I do, I will post.

So many "pros" gushing over the imaging and performance, love the 18hz bass - albeit not loud below mid 30's.... Not sure how good they look - kinda "plasitcky". Like your thoughts on that as well..

I wonder if they'll sound like other Def Tech speakers. I know some forum members think they're the bee's knees but they don't do much for me.

I dunno bout that.........not when I see a pair of square drivers sticking out the side. LOL! $2500. I think plenty of folks on here with the knowledge available on these products can do alot better. Give me a pair of XQ10's or 20's and an F15HPse sub for the same money any day of the week. In fact, just give me ANY pair of compentently made monitors and an F15HP over those "GoldenEars" towers anyday of the week. And I havent even heard em yet. I'd be really wary of ANY product with the name "GoldenEars" attached to it. Kinda creepy actually......maybe 007 can chime in.

Actually, Sandy Gross helped found GoldenEar so it is plausible that he was going for a Def Tech-type sound. I, for one, am not exactly a fan of the Mythos speakers but they get a lot of praise. Is this praise the results from honest professional opinions or more derived from the huge advertising budget? You have to decide that. I have listened to the Mythos only twice and while they have a decent sound, it is not for my taste. I think Gross was involved with Polk as well so the comparisons here will similarly be in play.

These speakers have been reviewed quite well by several people and you have never even heard them but you diss them. You did the same thing with the Zu's.... PA sound Of course you heartily recommend the stuff you own..... And you wonder why so many people think your just an pompous ahole..... You will never learn, and you have ZERO internet and social etiquette skills. I feel so bad for your family

Can't say that I'm a big fan of Polk speakers either. I found them way over priced for the sound they delivered. But, everyone's different. If I find a speaker I like (even a little bit), and are in my price range I bring my current speakers in and listen to both.

The Polk fanbase is huge so I won't go there other than to stay the last Polk sound I really liked was over 20 years ago. It will be interesting to hear these in action. Galen Carol audio has some very fancy electronics so my guess is he will go all out with the demo.

I'll apologize to everyone for having to discipline ntrain again. We are having what I think is a very substantive conversation about about these speakers and as usual, he's just here to stir the pot.
So sad.

Very interesting. A variation on perhaps the best tweeter ever invented, the Heil AMT. I will try to hear these, thanks for the lead.

My father gave me the Sound and Vision with the review on these sweet looking babies. I wondering if the sound field on the tweeter is narrow?
With my Sunfire CRM-2's it is very obvious how narrow they are. They have to be pointed right at me or the highs drop.

I really don't see how you can ridicule something that you even admit you have never heard. And to try and rationalize that by saying you can do so because you simply know how it is going to sound is not valid. Also, I think it was utterly tasteless to make fun of Chuckie the way you did. There is a difference between good-natured fun versus outright attempts at trying to humiliate someone.

For myself I'd have to hear them against a comparable speaker to be able to judge them on their own worth. Immediately, with the on-board powered sub, it's going to have more bass than a normal speaker. Whether that will be good bass or not comes down to who's listening and the room that they're hearing it in. I will say that I sincerly doubt it would compare to a $1K stand alone sub, but that's not what it's meant to do. For $2,600 a pair they would be the monetary equivilant to a current set of PC-3 speakers from Phase Tech (PC-3.5). So, the question for someone like me would be, do they sound the same or better as a set of PC-3s from Phase Tech? The last set of Def Techs I heard around that price range did not.
