I know I am going to lose serious "Emo Cred" but - new Mac Book Pros this week. Thanks for the newegg scoop on Saturday prices. I really like the 3008 and I will grab it in a week or two - after I sell my current Mac. Eric

Eric You will love your new 3008 and it should sound great on your speakers and gear. Now you have to BUY the Oppo 93 which is a great player for the money and then buy the Epik Empire as it is also a great deal $800 for the size and sound of the subwoofer.I hope when you use Audyssey 32 you will hear a fantastic sound and great sound in the bass as that is what it does BEST.You will not regret that you purchased the 3008 as with all it does it can be overwelming till you read the manual and try all the features and it has a real pass through if you choose to use that feature. If you buy the Epik Empire with the 32 Audyssey you will hear great bass for movies and music.Good Luck with the 3008!!!!

Thanks Bruce. I think the setup should go smoothly just like the setup for the 608 it is replacing.
The Empire will come after the Oppo, but both will have to wait until next month I think.
Thanks for all the help here. I am sure that I will have more questions and I know exactly where to come for answers!

Just a smart* note that I would like to add here for Eric: First, CONGRATULATIONS! * Two, get TWO Subwoofers! ...Eventually. "The best of both worlds in real life is exactly that; in real life!" - Bob

I do want to get two, but for my current listening area it would likely be overkill and I really am not sure I have a place to properly position it anyway.
I have another conflict too since Epik has discontinued subs in the past, I am not sure that if I buy one Empire now I can add a matching one later. I'll have to cross that bridge later though.
I will have my new Mac tomorrow and the 3008 by Thursday, so I will get everything set up by the weekend. It will be a fun week.

Eric, another great option is TWO Emotiva Ultra Sub 12s. => Same price as ONE Epik! * IMHO, best positions are up front: or the two L & R front corners, or between your Center speaker and both your Left and Right front mains. ______________________________________ Chicago Blues, in the State of Illinois; right on! { The Blues Brothers} -> 'Joliet' Jake & Elwood Blues.

It all varies on the room and I don't actually have a second corner to put the sub on that side of the room since there is an opening there. I could place it in a corner on the other side of the room which is next to the couch, but I am not sure what that would sound like there.
Anyway, the Oppo and the two UPA-1s are first since this is mostly for 2 channel listening for me. The kids can hold off on the subs. I pay for it, so I get the good stuff on a priority - LOL!

Eric That would be SUBfantastic! * Your Onky 3008, with Audyssey Sub EQ HT, will tune them perfectly to your room! Both of them, irrelevant of their final resting positions!

From Joliet to BC? Sounds like a nice deal to me! Eric Joliette in Quebec, Canada (near Montreal). I was born there. * Now the city capital of the Blues in Canada. Very true too. - Biggest Live Blues festival every Summer. Bands from all over and playing in all the bars plus outside; all week long.

Well, I got it yesterday and spent all day yesterday and today getting it all set up and cables tied and generally re-organized. Re-programming the Harmony took a bit also. Turns out I need some different cable lengths, so Monoprice to the rescue!
It was easy to get onto my network - just plugged it in and it was there. It's nice to listen to Pandora on the stereo instead of my Mac.
I have to say that I hate you all for making the recommendation of the NR-3008! In true "upgrade-itis" fashion, it makes me think my speakers are inadequate!
I still have a few pieces to get like my Oppo -93, the UPA-1's and a sub (or two - LOL!)
Thanks for all the help guys. I honestly appreciate it and I definitely know where to come for honest and friendly advice.
Eric

+1 on the 3008. That was the one I was going after until I found my 5508. The newer onkyos have multEQ XT32 which is fantastic!
