I have hooked up my xda-1 to my components & the toslink connections work fine but I'm getting no sound from either of the coax inputs. I've tried 2 different cables with no luck. When I reconnect to my receiver I get sound.
I called emotiva today & the tech said there is a switch on the back for balanced or unbalanced connections ( I'm using the Rca outs to my amp) & the switch is most likely in the wrong position. I thought great I simply overlooked something. When I got home I went straight to flip the switch & I don't see a switch. I don't see it mentioned in the manual either. Am I going crazy or what!
Thanks for any help!

are you selecting the right inputs when going from Coax to Opt (the silver buttons on the right side of the front panel)?

Now, what is plugged into the XDA? Are you using a laptop or a cd player?

I didn't know that you could play a cable box through the XDA. I thought it was stereo only.

Hmmm....I have my cable box set to output stereo & have had no issues when connected by coax to my receiver (Harman Kardon).
As an aside, is there a switch on this thing that I'm overlooking?

As long as the cable box has a digital output you can run it through the XDA-1. Should be ~cable box digital output>>xda-1 digital input >> XDA-1 analog output >> to either preamp/receiver/or prepro analog inputs.

Also, if your getting sound using the toslink then the problem is not with a switch on the back of a receiver or amp as your analog outs are obviously working. Are you positive your sending a digital signal into the XDA-1 coaxial input and not an analog signal?

Are you positive your sending a digital signal into the XDA-1 coaxial input and not an analog signal? I thought this also.....I'm getting sound out both toslink connections but neither coax. And I'm sure I'm sending a digital signal to the xda. I remove the coax from the xda & go to the digital coax connection on my receiver & it works. It's a digital connection on my receiver. buzz

Sorry Buzz, but it sounds like it may be an internal problem with your XDA-1. :-(

But that does not make sense as bdripper above said he could repro the problem with his comcast box.
Maybe the problem is in the comcast box. My understanding is that the digital signal that you feed to the XDA has to be PCM. If it is 5.1 or something else the XDA will not recorgnize it and you will egt no sound. The receiver will of course recognize it and process it.
Sounds like a bug in the comcast box where despite setting it to send stereo signal it is not sending PCM over coax. I'd say if your comcast box has an optical out use it and see if that is working. I would suggest calling comcast to see if this is a known issue. Or check online.

I am not up on all the technical details (pcm over coax) I kind of just knew of the 2 connections toslink & coax. I figured with my setup, 2 toslink & 1 coax connection I was good to go with the xda but maybe it wont work with my setup. I will try to investigate if my box will output pcm tho. Thanks for the suggestion! buzz

i have to run my comcast box to my PC by coax then to xda because comcast broadcast there music in Dolby digital the xda doesn't support Dolby digital
