I ordered it so I guess I'm gullible. Read those books every year for decades, not lately though. Wrote papers on it for University. I love the movies too. I've been telling myself I would get this version when it came out for a couple of years. I had the original DVDs but misplaced them in the move back from AZ. |

I have the extended cuts on DVD and really like them. I'm torn on whether or not to replace them with this. I recently got the BD of all the TOS/NG Star Trek films and felt a bit let down (especially after selling my original DVDs of them). If New Line has done a good job redoing the special effects for HD then I might. I haven't heard anything to the contrary for the BD cuts of the theatrical versions so I'm hopeful. Maybe pick them up on special or something in about a year or so?

Hmm, wonder how much better these are than DVDs... really. I do love the PQ on the DVDs and dunno if I want to drop the cash on this or wait for another collection...

Bob, your gonna make this new set your *bleep*!!! I almost watched my theater versions the other day but I'm glad I didn't. I'll wait for these babys. I only paid $25 for my current set anyways.

The last two weeks we've been having movie nights so my 8 year old can get through the movies (DVDs). Right now we're finally into The Return of The King. The funny thing is that my wife is surprised at how much she is enjoying them.

The Lord of The Rings is not only appreciated by males.
I was very sick at age 13 and my father got the paperbacks for me. I read them all in about a week. I wish there were more female characters but that's the only criticism I can make of LOTR, its one of the greatest stories ever told. Just about a month ago I watched the theatrical release versions on BD from Netflix. I think the video was better than the DVDs I have someplace.

I have the EE on DVD and because of the Oppo's *superb* DVD upscaling I feel no great need to buy the BluRays. However, if I did not have the DVDs already, I would most certainly purchase the BD versions.
