This HT Bypass info is very disappointing. I want to find out of I am understanding it correctly regarding those who DO use 2.1 for music. The regular inputs should operate as you would expect, but what about the HT Bypass? Does it run the 2.1 output through the high/low pass filter, or does it just go through essentially unmodified? Yes, as roadrunner has stated and I can confirm, when the USP-1 is in HT Bypass mode, the signal from your processor is passed through "untouched". Be aware, however, that the USP-1 must also be powered on for the HT Bypass to even function. It is not engaged by default when the USP-1 is in the "standby" mode. The 2.1 HP/LP filter (bass management) would only apply to the 2 channel sources which you choose to have directly connected to the USP-1. Personally, I have all of my dedicated 2 channel sources connected to (and managed by) my USP-1 with my UMC-1 handling only HT decoding. The combination, to me, is simply the absolute best of both worlds. My only wish, and I understand that the XMC-1 will have this feature, would be having HT Bypass active while in the standby mode. Other than that, I couldn't be more pleased. Hope this helps.....

At Axpona, I was told 30-60 days for the XSP. I was told that they were working to make it as great as possible and ensure a bug free experience.

Haven't been here for awhile. Been waiting for the xsp-1...so I came to check status. Noticed that it will have tone controls? Is that true...on a reference flagship pre? What happened...I thought they weren't including it?

What happened...I thought they weren't including it? Last that I heard, the XSP-1 will have a very sophisticated, precise tone control implementation. It will have little resemblance to the typical tone controls found on audio equipment. I guess we will find out for sure in a few more weeks. Lonnie, now that the XSP-1 is so close to completion, how about releasing a complete features list and photos of the release candidate? Give all of us a taste of what can be done when your focus is to create the premier 2-channel preamplifier!

Thanks for the response RR. Hmm...another circuit in the singal path? Not to thrilled about that. Interesting to see what implentation it will use. Every gear I come across with so-called true tone by-pass always seems to degrade sq. We'll see...I'll keep an open mind.

Well they released pictures of the XSP last December or so, and most of the features (but not all)can be ascertained from that. Some want tone controls and some do not, one of those cases where you are damned if you do and damned if you don't.

will the XSP have DAC functionality on par with the XDA-1?
I stumbled across this, and don't know much about the XSP, but I was about to pull the trigger on the XDA as a stand alone pre-amp feeding a pair of upa-1's in a 2.0, maybe future 2.1 system.
The sources would obviously be digital - itunes in some fashion, and standard D/DVD transport.
What more does the XSP bring to my senario outlined above, and what's it expected to cost? I did a search, but the most results are speculation, so I'm having a hard time sorting out what's actually going to be released.
Thanks!

The XSP will be a fully analog preamp with no DAC. It should be priced around $800 or so. It will have balanced inputs and will be balanced internally. It will allow a balanced path from an XDA to the amps.

Hi everyone, I have a question. I know that no one has heard the XSP-1 but can anyone give a rough estimate on how much better the XSP-1 should sound like compared to my X-fi computer sound card processing everything. I have two upa-1s powering two tower speakers and was wondering what the difference could be if I add a hi end preamp to the equation.
If not compare the USP-1 THANX

NEWS FLASH! Several Asian's were spotted swimming towards the U.S. with EMO boxes lashed to their backs. I guess the high price of fuel is forcing everyone to seek alternatives.

Just curious where this information came from. If true this is really disappointing. The "about ninety days" that was floated at Axpona Atlanta is all but gone. I'm all for not bringing a product out until it is right but this one has been a long time coming for me. If it doesn't come out until next year, in my mind it will have to be absolutely stellar. The longer it takes, the more I will expect of it, if that makes any sense. If it will be another six months or more, please address everything even if it is not directly performance related, like the volume knob dimple/led. I am really hoping that the XSP-1 will be a killer product both in performance and overall user experience. The waiting sucks but I would rather it be awesome!

Thanks, I missed that! I still see that damn dimple/led though Lonnie told me in Atlanta that it would be too expensive to address at this point. I guess he wasn't kidding. Oh well, If everything else is awesome, I will just have to figure out a work-around on my own. Maybe have a machine shop make me a nice billet piece that I can affix to the front of the knob. Sometimes I can be really anal about little things
