Gen Y'ers please move on to the next post... Has anyone hacked their usp-1 to dim or shutdown the volume control's blue halo illumination? I tried doing a search for this but came up empty. I do 99% of my listening at night and the blue halo has got to go!

Yes, yes, yes I agree. Although I don't have a USP, but the same goes for the power buttons on my XPA-5 and UMC-1. If you're going to put runway lights on a piece of gear, I wish they would make every light dimmable or able to shut down completely. My gear is right below my TV, and we only watch movies and TV at night in very low light(so it looks the best) and the lights still drive me crazy after all this time lol.

Villock, you dingbat, these guys are simply asking for an option to dim the ridiculously bright and obnoxious light. You can keep yours on and burn out your retinas if you like. Frankly I wish Emo would address this problem. And it IS a problem.

Yeah, I actually love the lights, but they just really need to add the option to dim them down or all the way off preferably. They made the other lights dimmable, why not the power buttons? I like them in a bright room with a bunch of sunlight coming in, but when the lights go out, and it's movie time, I want my gear to disappear. These blue power buttons in a dark room light up like the Vegas strip.

But I believe the title of the thread is the blue halo has got to go. What do you think they should do? I've got the perfect solution for you. Turn your gear around and have it face the wall that way you don't have to look at those ridiculously bright and obnoxious lights. Your Welcome

I know that it's not possible for everyone to do this, but I have my gear on the same side of the room as my seating. I don't see the lights unless I actually turn and look at the gear.
I do agree that a dim option for all lights would be nice though.

I don't directly look at my gear as it is off to the side. I see a lot of guys pile their gear under TV/Screens and then I agree it looks like a Xmas tree. When you look at my screen thats all you see...
I like the blue lights. Makes me feel like the cops are chasing me.... :-)

The lights are a nice touch and definitely add a wow factor when people see the gear for the first time, but it would be nice to be able to shut them off completely.

I'll just bet that with about 3 feet of 22 gauge wire, a SPST toggle switch (or cheapo potentiometer), a 1/4" drill bit, a soldering gun, and a screwdriver, our prayers could be answered. (Not for the timid.)

I wonder if the blue halo is some of homage to the vacuum tube. I had a small vacuum tube headphone amp from China... it came with a blue LED under the 12au7 socket to add more light since the filament didn't give enough glow, I guess. I sold it to a young guy and when he noticed the bright blue LED I offered to disconnect it for him. "No way! I like it" he said. Tube glow I like. LED glow... not so much.

I remember long ago Emo stated that it would add quit a bit to the price and is hard to put a dimmer in because it can intrados noise if not done right , but anyway my IPS-1 can be dimmed pretty low and turned off so they can do it it`s just costly and pretty tricky to implement I guess
