Mm no, I can pull up more than that, but really, that's all you need, did you actually read the article? Did you see the difference between single and multiple subs? there's quite a lot out there about single subs being a less than desirable setup for music, unless you are listening from pretty much just one position in the room. There is overwhelming evidence in favor of multiple subs, not just that one article.
I think the only way to achieve good bass in room with just one sub is with a full room treatment, top to bottom. So, you're right, in that respect, if by room, you mean properly treated room, and not just... room.
Otherwise, yeah, if you're sitting still on a sofa, sure, you can get good response with a single sub. Just don't get up to walk around.

Well I'm running 3 subs, 2 for music and 1 for movies with the option to run all three at once. IMO I know, as many of us do, that sub frequencies as well as the rest of the audible spectrum, are not recorded in mono (in music) and that is why I run a 2.2 set-up for audio only playback. I was told and shown by someone I very much respect, that worked for McIntosh for 20 plus years, that a sub for each channel was the way to go and I have been doing so ever since. The bottom line here (no pun intended) is that it's all a matter of personal taste. What might work for me may not work for others and vice-versa. We all hear differently and like what we like. None of us build our systems based only on what's suggested, but rather on what our ears tell us. In this industry, the possibilities are almost infinite, so let's not lose sight of that fact and keep experimenting and sharing what we learn to be considered as "options" rather than "right or wrong"

That is too weird kraemerkid...I just listened to the music hall the other day at my local Hi Fi store where I bought my B&W 803s and I got to A/B it against the XDA...The music hall sounded much better. A lot smoother across the board, but with better detail, which worked out beautifully with the 803s. (It taimed the midrange to the point where I really enjoyed the FST driver much much more) I think I am putting the XDA up for sale here in a couple of days and going with the music hall. For the money (my price would be 500.00 being that I have been doing business with him since I was 16 yrs. old! haha) i think it's a good deal.
@ xyz1 I put in a bid for 1250.00 but was affraid that I would lose it to someone willing to "buy it now" so I ended up paying what he was asking (1400.00) and I'm hoping he will throw some XLRs into the deal. I just couldn't pass it up.

I may end up with that same preamp you got, please let us know your impressions when you receive it. ;D

Ok, I didn't read the whole thread, and I'm late to the party. But, in this price range, you could get a used Pass Labs X1. Personally, I'm not sure I have ever heard a finer preamp. And man do I love a good preamp.

I never got a chance to listen to the pass labs but have always heard great things. It turns out that the guy I bought the w4s pre from is a reviewer for 6moons.com! A great guy who was very helpful. He even threw in a pair of 1.5 meter Cobalt xlrs and a pair of .5 meter Zu xlrs into the deal. I am quite excited.

I have 2 pairs of Zu Audio Crux balanced cables that i use from my XDA-1 to my Parasound P3 then to my XPA-2. Excellent build quality on there cables. Oh by the way I got my P3 I'll pm you this weekend. So much better then USP-1 lol. The XDA-1 needed a pre amp and I got a winner.

One of the greatest joys of hifi, for me, is interacting with folks like you met. The ones that just go a step beyond the usual to help you get the absolute best out of something. I know I've tried to do that for others, and I have certainly had it done for me along the way. Enjoy.
