USP-1 and iPod/iPhone

I have a USP-1, ERC-1 and XPA-5 (also a Yam 1800) and have just entered the iPhone world.
I am currently transferring part of my CD collection to my iPhone in Apple Lossless so I can use it at work for some good tunes.
Thinking of adding a dock of some description to my setup at home for some quick listening rather than opening up the CD collection. Also it's a request from the better half so she doesn't have to get out the "stupid CD's' when I could just plug this in......"
Now I know absolutely nothing about iPods, iPhones or downloaded music so I'm just after a little direction and a few suggestions.
Doesn't need to be the highest quality addition as I'll still go direct to the CD's for some quality listening, just something that's functional for the good lady.
What should I add and where is it best in the chain?

Add a Pure i20 ipod/iPhone dock. It bypasses the iphone's internal DAC in favor of it's own DAC and analog outputs which you can easily plug into the USP-1.

Eliminate the need for the Ipod altogether and get a Squeezebox Touch. It will play your apple lossless files over wifi and has a decent DAC in it. It will also be much nicer to operate then an Ipod on a docking station. You can also get an app called Ipeng for the Ipod touch or Iphone that will allow you to wifi control the Squeezebox Touch.

I have been trying to decide on these two options as well. My issue is I don't want to stream anything. So the squeezebox looks good other than it has no storage. If it did I bet they would double their sales. Granted you can use a usb stick or mermory card but it will be hard to get the 160gb you can get out of the Ipod classic.
