I remember reading here from the members that they would love to have the analog meters on their Emo amps!

Maybe an optional face-plate with meters for e.g. $100 (or 10% of the amp cost or less) would sell. E.g. one for a UPA-1 would be ~$50.

IMO...your review, while an interesting read, is seriously flawed. Unless I missed it somewhere..you didn't match the output levels betweem the amps. An amp that is even just 1dB louder will sound "better"..or at the the very least different. You need to at least break out the SPL meter and play a test tone and ensure the are both playing at the same level.
With that said...I would still be surprised if the XPA-2 didn't sound as good as the MC402.

I think if it were off 1db it would not make a significant difference with regards to the lack of clarity in the bass.

Perhaps not but in your ears there is a good chance that one might be influenced.
* Balance levels matching is always very important when listening to two products. Even from two of the same product.

After owning EMO equipment for a while now, when I go to a B&M store to check out speakers I make sure the amplification is at LEAST McIntosh to get a good idea of what they'd sound like at home. Makes me smile to know that there are others that more or less have reached the same conclusion.

1 db is perceptible to me, at least when its a matter of balance. I think if both had the same output level and are not faulty they would sound identical. The pluses of the Mc are build quality and cosmetics, both very important to some. If I had lots of money I could see buying the Mc's for both reasons. Right now I can only afford to get the "best" (defined differently by different people) speaker drivers and since this makes a difference in SQ (I hear it anyway) it is far more important than having an amp built like a tank and that looks like a masterpiece, level meters and all. Plus there's the joy of having built them myself. I used some Mc equipment for a few months decades ago and it was sure pretty.
