The Project turntable wasn't a kit. Some disassembly was required. :-). I just wanted a custom paint job. Maybe I can make a plinth out of granite and move the parts over. That would be cool. ;-)

You landed a pretty nice TT for only a C note -- way to go. That is one heck of a bargain. Are you new to LPs? ...or digging out your old LP collection? I have about 800 LPs boxed up waiting for me to set up a turntable. I would need to totally rearrange my living room and buy new A/V furniture, not to mention rerun new speaker wiring and moving/mounting speakers. I keep arguing with myself if it is worth the work and the money to redo everything to work the TT and record storage into the system. Decisions, decisions... Oh well, I will put it on the back-burner for now and wait until I feel more ambitious.

I realized that after I posted and was SOOOO embarassed. I don't think I would manage to get that back together without instructions. I am tempted to check out Best Buy to see if they have any left. I have a lot of records that I cannot play.

Only their Magnolia stores carry Pro-ject, but the one in Knoxville TN still had the display model available when I was in there last week. It looked in perfect condition.

Also, only the white ones were marked down to $99. The other colors were still $399.

I think you should just give me all those old LP's and free up some room in your house. :-) :-) This is the first turntable I've had since childhood. Still need a phono stage to use it, but waiting on the XSP-1.

Well, I just wasn't satisfied with my paint job so I took it back apart and sanded it down. [/img]

Then sprayed several coats of metallic silver to match my Emo Trim and finished it off with a couple coats of clear. [/img]

Sold my USP-1 awhile back because I thought the XSP-1 was about to be released. So I went ahead and purchased the Pro-ject phono box II for now. Also, my acrylic platter will arrive tomorrow. Later I will add the Pro-ject speed box and upgrade the stylus. Sounds really good now though. ] [/img]

Fantastic stuff Briank, really impressive. I wish I had the confidence and skill to do something similar to my SOTA Moonbeam. It is an exceptionally good budget TT but lacks a bit in the looks department.

Thanks Visn, still can't believe I got it for $99 plus tax = $109. Plus, I've got about $20 worth of paint and sandpaper, $150 for the phono box, $129 for the acrylic platter, so I'm up to $408 now. Next will be the speed box, a stylus upgrade, and a good record clamp but then I'm done. . . . . famous last words. . . .

I'm so jealous but just can't spare another $500 at this time.

Theresa, maybe Santa Clause will bring you one this year. I'm hoping he brings me an XSP-1. :-)

Brian All this work on your new TT reflects a man with too much time on his hands. ;D ;D I have some chores around the house that can keep you busy for a few weeks, errr months. I will furnish the beer and good music. How soon can I expect you? Seriously, you have it looking really nice. What cartridge did you upgrade to? Back when I had my Thorens TT/SME arm set up the two accessories that I found very useful where the ZeroStat Antistatic gun and the carbon fiber brush that looked like a roll of quarters. Used them both daily. Be careful though or your wife will claim ownership of the ZeroStat to "treat" her clothing as she gets dressed every morning. lol It worked amazingly well on her silk and nylon to prevent clinging. I eventually gave in and bought her one solely for her use. It was the best way for me to find MY ZeroStat when I wanted to play some LPs. ;D ;D ;D

Ron, beer is the magic word. I'll be right over. :-) Yeah, I've been eyeing that ZeroStat gun already. It's on the "I want" list. No Cartridge upgrade yet. Using the stock ortofon 5. I may upgrade to the Ortofon Red at some point but I want to get my speed box next. My carbon brush will come tomorrow via UPS along with my Acrylic platter. Several guys have told me that just using the Acrylic platter eliminated their static problems. Time to listen to some vinyl. :-) [/img]
