For curiosity, I just wanted to start a thread to get an idea of what people thought sounded really good. I know I'm opening a can of worms, but I just want a short response stating the particular brand and model, and maybe a short description. Nothing elite or esoteric though. Say no more than $5,000 USD MSRP? Some notable speaker brands: Wilson Audio Focal Mission Bowers & Wilkins Revel Martin Logan KEF T+A Dynaudio Tannoy JBL Magnepan Infinity Theil Sonus Klipsch Dali Mordaunt Short Burmester Canton Boston Acoustic Jamo Triangle Richter Bose Polk Audio

Everybody knows that Bose is the best of that list! LO!L I just added Bose for completeness. OK, I was just kidding about Bose speakers. However, when I was a young stud (several years ago) I used to like T+A a lot. (Nice list you have there!)

Nice, I'm just after suggestions. To be honest bud, a lot of speakers, high end or not look like a 5 year old designed the aesthetics. The local home theater store thinks T+A is the bees knees.

depends on what your need the speakers for the most, ht I would say krix, jbl, warfdale, klipshe..
the remaining, accusound, jamo, kef, B&W, boston acoustics are usually offered with the likes of yamaha, onkyo, denon, marantz and pioneers (entry level gear)..
not that i'm saying that they are bad, this is what i see on offer for speaker packages for avr's..
speaking in the ht arena context, I would tend to look at krix, jbl, or klipsche, when talking in regards to poweramp ht setups.....
my opinion with anything in the bose range of speakers should only be used with bose gear, I would say it wouldn't take long blowing the bose fuses if you try to anything within the emo line of power amps..
typically i would say you would spend between $3,500-10,000AUD on speaker packs and likely more once you start to look at speaker typically used within a commercial cineplex theater space...
it just depends on your budget to what you go with..
though I suspect some would actually use emo speakers aswell to be a part of their ht environment..

ausman, FYI, I enjoy the Bowers & Wilkins range, and they are NOT offered with entry level gear. They are NOT an entry level brand. Their respective series of speakers can only be purchased through authorized HIFI/HT stores. They are offered with Krell and Rotel gear.

With the $5,000 price point limit, I'd have to say the Magnepan 3.6's. I haven't had the chance to listen to the 3.7's yet, but I expect them to sound even better.

Ed Frias T-22 Carbon Fiber. Haven't spoken with Ed in awhile. Hope he is still applying his craft to speaker building.

I'd add my Thiel 3.6's in there as well, but they were replaced in the Thiel lineup in 2007 by the far more expensive Thiel 3.7's that cost $12,000 a pair.

Thought the ESS Heil AMT1 was worth a mention. Loved that air motion transformer!

You've forgot to add Phase Technologies to the list. The cap of $5,000 precludes me from adding Induction Dynamics. Although, you have B&W on there (but I'm assuming that's not their Diamond Series).
Revel really impressed me when I went out and started looking at some of the speakers heavily hyped/recommended on this forum.

I've always been a sucker for the Martin Logan line. I have Sequel 2's, which I have kept udated with new power sources and panels.... I feel they provide a level of transparency that is astounding.... Smooooth....

collector, I heard a pair of Martin Logan floorstanders, they were a cone + electrostat hybrid apparently. I found that when I set in the sweet spot, the energy and presence were amazing, but found they were too strong in the upper mids and trebles, harsh even, and lacked bass. When I stood up out of the sweet spot, all of the upper mids and treble disappeared. I just can't remember the model though.
