.....I thought that Bob Carver debunked that thinking long ago...... Yes he did! He proved that with a sub enclosure roughly the size of a Rubik's Cube (OK, slightly larger) with an extremely long throw driver, a magnet that weighs a ton and an amp with 5 times the power of a previously normal sized sub and for about 3 times the bucks you could have a sub that impressed those that enjoyed the movie Honey, I Shrunk The Sub. You could amaze your friends with how much bass you could produce out of such a tiny little box. Previously folks thought that tweeters took up a small space, mid range drivers took up a medium size space, woofers took up a fairly large space and subwoofers took up an even larger space ...... nope! ..... not anymore folks! ;D

Yes, you can boost the sub by 15db or so with a Linkwitz Transform but output will be less and power consumed much greater (I mean a LOT, 15db is a big boost!). I see so many subs far smaller than the main speakers (in volume that is) and well, psychoacoustics explains the rest.

I think Theresa was not only talking about how low it goes but at what output volume. Lost of subs go down to 25, 20 and 15Hz but at what volume compared to their volume at 50Hz or 80Hz? Gotcha. And apologies to Theresa for missing her meaning. I suspect she is right that the F12 has more output at the lower freqs, however we won't know for sure until some of the new X-Ref owners start posting some reviews. I am eagerly awaiting what they have to say, hint, hint..

From what I can tell, at least the Rythmik F12 works, not so sure about the Emotiva X-Ref 12. I bought the Rythmik.

Any feedback on the Rythmik F12? How does it sound on 2 channel music?

Any feedback on the Rythmik F12? How does it sound on 2 channel music? I have the F12SE which replaced an Outlaw LFM-1 Plus. The LFM-1 Plus was great for HT but was lacking for music IMO. The F12SE was a very nice improvement for music and is great for HT as well. The Ref-X 12 looks to be a great sub in its price range. Head to head I would say the F12 would be the better sub but the cost is quite a bit more. But that is just a guess as I have never heard the Ref-X 12. I would like to hear the Ref-X 12 but right now I'm quite happy with the F12SE. Hopefully someone that has had both in their system can give a hands on review. So to answer your question I feel the F12SE is excellent for 2CH music and blends quite well with my Salk SongTowers . Bill

I was doing some browsing today at work on the Rythmik web site, as they are my alternative to the X-REF/15. Unfortunately, Rythmik does not publish the output per frequency specs. It is nice to know that their subs has -3dB at 14Hz. But what is the output at that frequency? Specifically, I would like to know the measured output @ 2m for the following frequencies: 17Hz, 20Hz, 35Hz, 40Hz, 60Hz & 80Hz. Or at different frequencies 17Hz-80Hz.

You could contact Rythmik directly to get answers to your questions. www.rythmikaudio.com/contact.htmlOr you could post your questions in the Rythmik thread over at AVS. Brian the owner of Rythmik posts quite a bit in the Rythmik thread. www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1214550I didn't notice when looking at the X-Ref 12 product page but does Emotiva list all the specs for their subs that you are looking for on the Rythmik? No! I do not expect any manufacturer to post the maximum SPL v. Frequency specs. I was hoping that there was an independent review that published those specs. Again, here is where you are sarcastic rather than your claim to fame of being respectful. In other words, I should not request these specs of another manufacturer because Emotiva does not post them. Simply silly. Thank God for google. I was able to find something close to what I wanted. See below from a review done by Audioholics. Rythmik FV-15HP CEA Test Performance Frequency Maximum Peak SPL @ 1 Meter 20 Hz 113.5 dB 25 Hz 119.0 dB 32 Hz 123.8 dB 40 Hz 126.0 dB 50 Hz 125.9 dB 63 Hz 125.7 dB Max SPL Output Data of the Rythmik FV15HP Subwoofer (1 meter groundplane) Very impressive specs. But the this model is just too big for my taste and practicality. Nevertheless, the F-12 could get my nod, as I think that even if its output per frequency is 3db lower, it would be enough for me. O'k Emo, bring on the X/REF-15s

Are you serious? I post two links to help you find information on Rythmik products and I'm being sarcastic. Thats a fine way to thank someone who is trying to help you out No, that is not what I meant in the least. I was actually curious if Emotiva posted those specs as I did not see them on the Ref-X product page. That doesn't mean that they are not posted elsewhere on the Lounge. Your above post clearly shows that you and you alone are the one with an issue here. You posted earlier that I follow you around this forum. Well it looks like you have it totally backwards . You are unreal in that I am trying to extend an olive branch and help you out with a product I have actual experience with. Do you appreciate it? No you totally turn everything around to make it look like I'm the jerk. Well guess again as it is quite obvious who that is . Bill

I could easily point out not only sarcasm, but from your response above, the added insincerity. But I wish not to continue with these exchanges. Let us call it a day and wish for a better tomorrow. Peace!

From what I can tell, at least the Rythmik F12 works, not so sure about the Emotiva X-Ref 12. I bought the Rythmik. Any thoughts on the F12 since its been in your system? I would be curious if you found the single band PEQ useful. Bill

George, how are you liking your X-ref 12 so far ? Very happy with it, Brian. Clearly better than my Ultra 12. I just hooked up the Movie mode trigger and setup another input in my UMC for when I want to watch a movie (vs BD concert) that automatically switches in the 45Hz 6db boost. I really like that feature although at first I didn't think much of it. Not using the PEQ at this time because of the Behringer 1124p I'm using. The X-Ref + Ultra is a HUGE improvement over the Ultra + Polk that I was using. Next step would be to add another X-Ref in place of the Ultra. ;D
