For all you Lounge members that have been waiting on a hands-on review I've now logged 7 solid straight hours of listening time with these. I spent about 4 hours yesterday at "Tbro49's" home listening to his Airmotiv 4's hooked straight to an ERC-1, and this experience prompted me to do what I had decided not to do until I could set up the Airmotiv 6's in my computer room pre-amped with an XDA-1 which is now at Emotiva HQ's having the volume firmware updated. Anyhow I came straight home from Tom's and finished setting/hooking up an XPA-2 (thoughts on this beastly amp in another thread) which also arrived at my door yesterday morning with the Airmotiv's and proceded to place them in my home theater room (16x18) with an open area to the kitchen and placed them on top of my Klipsch Legend fronts(which by the way has two 10in woofers) plugged them in and connected with RCA interconnects straight to an ERC-1.
I've now listened to a wide array of CD's with the more prominent ones being: Diana Krall, Al Di Meola, Billy Joel, Donald Fagen, Dave Brubek, Sting, Fuel, AC/DC and Saliva.
First I remind that I'm listening to the Airmotiv 6's in a room that is normally being filled with Klipsch towers and a ported SVS sub that isn't breaking a sweat for the low end. The 210 watt rms biamped 6.5 driver woofer is quite impressive in filling a room that has high ceilings and open to another room, I would never have thought this possible but I guess Emotiva Pro has figured a way for 210 watts and a polypropylene composite woofer to make this happen. Don't get me wrong, the Klipsch Legend towers that are normally driving the music are definitely not being out performed nor will they be replaced with these, but it makes me wonder just what these Airmotiv's will do in an enclosed, 12x10, computer room in which the ceiling aren't vaulted. I have a feeling I'm going to be more than satisfied.
The ribbon tweeter is simply "MIND BLOWING"! Big Dan said these ribbon tweeters will be featured in the upcoming Reference series line of speakers. I have been listening to speakers to eventually replace my well loved Klipsch setup, and I have put that on an indefinite hold waiting to hear just how well these ribbon tweeters will be incorporated in the future Emotiva Reference speaker line. These tweeters are as good as I've heard to these ears and words that I use to describe are clean, clear, transparent and precise, I don't know how to describe them any better than that but I will add I have not experienced any listening fatigue what so ever. They produce the highs that I believe the artist intended me to hear. The key strokes on Billy Joels piano keys are precise, Diana Krall's voice is clear & transparent and Al Di Meola's guitar is clean to the point that I'm seeing the actual plucking of the string. Emotiva has designed a tweeter that just makes me believe that the sky could be the limit when it comes to their future Reference line and is a pleasure to listen to. I do believe I will be spending much time in the computer room in the future. ;D
One other thing worth mentioning, with the transparency and preciseness of these Airmotiv 6's, in my experience thus far, they won't mask a bad source so trash in will give you trash out, which is why I'm eager to get my XDA-1 back from Emotiva, so I can use it with a wide array of different quality music files.
Another note of interest, while I've been pushing these 6's at a higher volume for a couple of hours the amplifiers in these are only mildly warm to the touch.
