First Hello to all it has been some time ive been reading on this forum an emotiva products and finally im starting to move on building my system. ;D im from México so the test the product and if i dont like it seend it back its not an practical for me, down here the options for audio are limited or too expensive and i dont have tons of money to buy all right away so this is my plan. Start 2.0 system and later improve to 5 or 7 home theater my listening generes are from jazz, funk, house, rock and some clasic barroque music Speakersi have tested here the B&W 683 (liked a lot) and the Monitor Audio RX8 (very detailed but little to bright) But since the 8.3 are on sale i think on them as a better and cheap option, do u think they are on the level of the B&W and the MA? Amplificationi was thinking on a xpa-2, but to get more flexibility, and less money maybe get the xpa-5 but do you think the xpa-5 can do a good job only on 2 chanels meanwile? can it handle the 8.3 nicely? on this stage i will use my old integrated amp (gradiente pro 2000 mk2 1978) as a pre amp and an old technics cd player. Later to upgrade the system get the umc-1 as procesor and add the erc-2 as source or an oppo, besides shure the rest of the speakers erm-6.2 for surronunds and 6.3 for center chanel ( or the replacements for the series that emotiva bring to us) finaly to complete the sistem get an xpa-2 to take charge of the Left and Right speakers and the new xsp-1 preamp for 2 chanel listening so this is my crazy plan thank you for your opinions and forgive my english i hope i was not to confusing Francisco

Purchasing the ERT-8.3 speakers is an excellent choice. IMHO, the ERT-8.3 is better than the B & W 683 and the Monitor Audio RX8, and it is a lot less expensive if you get the Emotiva speakers while at Close Out pricing. If you can afford it, I would also buy the ERM-6.3 or 6.2 for the center channel right now just because of the price. All the other compenents could be added just as you detailed in your post. The XPA-5 would be a great choice for driving the ERT-8.3 speakers now and in the future. As long as you don't try to drive the speakers beyond ear-bleeding sound levels, there will be no problem using the XPA-5 to drive just the two ERT-8.3 speakers. They are really a pretty easy load on the amp and should not present any problems. Adding the XPA-2 power amp when you move to a 5.1 or 7.1 is a wonderful step to take. The ERT-8.3 speaker can handle immense amounts of power without a hint of stress... they can beautifully handle all the power you can feed them. Emotiva routinely demonstrates their equipment at road shows with each ERT-8.3 being bi-wired to 2 XPA-1 power amps. That is 4 Kwatts of power being fed to the towers. The UMC-1 and the ERC-2 CD Player will give you many years of superb sound quality. I can find no flaws in your plans. You are on the right path. I also plan on adding the XSP-1 to my system when it comes out. I wouldn't worry about your English. I had no trouble following what you were trying to say. Welcome to the Emotiva Lounge.

hey roadrunner Thank you very much im not so crazy after all : , i was very doubtfull about the quality of the emotiva speakers versus a brand like b&W. i hope somebody can chime in and descrive the diferences between them in sound terms ( i know its a subjetive matter but it could help) maybe i need to slow down a little my plans and only buy the speakers because of the #$%$# economy the peso went this week from 11.50 to 13.50 for each dollar do you think that my integrated amp (80wpc) can handle the emotivas speakers for the time till next sale ? (halloween or black friday)

As far as which speakers are "better"... as you said, it is subjective. I am biased towards the Monitor Audio since I own a pair of the older towers. Just my general thoughts on each of the speakers is that the Emotiva speakers are going to be more laid back, the B&W's will be quite neutral, and the Monitor Audio will be a bit brighter as you have mentioned. I still think they are well balanced though. With mine, I ended up going with a DAC that had a tube to soften the top end. I am really pleased. The Emotiva speakers would pair nicely with the XDA-1 DAC naturally since it is really open on the top end and quite dynamic. The XPA-5 would be a great amp to start with as it offers flexibility for 2 channel and HT. I use mine for 2 channel all the time. If you are more concerned about raw power for 2 channel though, go for the XPA-2. The one thing that I have noticed about the Emotiva speakers is that the more power pushing them, the better they sound. I have heard them on several amps and the XPA-1's really opened them up, but there are several factors to consider with this. Your current 80w integrated would likely work, but one of the Emo amps would do them much more justice. Depending on your room size and your listening level, your current amp may struggle. All the above is just what I have heard and my 2 cents. I am sure that others will chime in with their opinions, as well.

i must say that entering emotiva its getting more appealing each time not only for the price and quality they show, as for the comunity ;D really you are helping me yeap the monitor are little to bright for me but very acurated , B&W in the model 683 i tested i feel it more rich but not precise (just my opinion) im hoping emotivas get a little of precision but with warm sound as you said balanced i dont get because language "laid back" term hope not be like dull or not exiting sound using them with my integrated its just meanwhile i get the xpa-5 and the combination of tubes on pre and solid state in my opinion its great maybe later

Warm sounding speakers are typically referred to as more laid back. Forward sounding speakers typically are bright. Hopefully that clarifies my post for you.

I am sorry to hear that you will have to wait a while longer due to rough handling by the shipping company. Out of curiosity, what sort damage did the speaker have? If it is just cosmetic, you might want to use it until the new speakers arrive. At least you would be able to enjoy the sound while waiting for the new speakers to arrive. ;D

Very Bad News after the speaker was damaged, emotiva told me they send right away the new one, i was confused about the side of the speaker because i think they opened in customs or was confused when i open the box so i took pictures of the speakers to help identify the side of the speaker well they send it wrong after several mails i seend asking to please take care of that, after the mistake they told me they send right away the speaker, that happened on oct 7, i mail the friday asking what happend and told me that they will take care on monday, but today i get a mail telling me that they will not send my speaker till they pick up the damaged speaker and the wrong side they send. so now was my fault that the first speaker was damaged? absolutely no and neiter emotiva fault, but the second one was absolutly their fault because i took pictures and mailed couple of times asking please take care of that. So i did put my confidence in the wrong company? i dont know yet but i think this kind of things are not helping to a nice image should i keep spending money on them ? maybe 1200 dlls are not a fortune for many but down here its an importan amount of money
