That sub looks like it’s to close to the wall I would pull it out 2 to 3 feet away from that wall the one with the window Congrats on the new sub! ;D ;D ;D +1 , The opposing driver looks like it is firing into a wall.

It's really not that close. There's about 3.5 inches between the grill and wall. I had to put it 'deep' into the corner to get the slam I wanted. It doesn't seem to suffer from this 'extreme' placement as the ported ED would which got boomy and reverberated when tucked in the corner.

I'm really enjoying music with this sub. I just played all the way through a Toni Braxton cd (incredible voice). Every note was tight, clear and defined with no overhang.
I might have to get a second one for movies like I said in an earlier post or just spring for the Submersive or diy.
Would there be a large difference between this sub and the Submersive? Or would I be better off going DIY for even greater gains? Either move wouldn't be cheap but neither is buying 5 different subs and still longing for more. At least I know what sounds good to me now. I'm a sealed sub guy all the way now.

Third post in rapid succession here we go...
I noticed the plate amp is quite warm during standby when the sub hasn't been used for a while. Is this normal? The ED rarely did this during use, and didn't get past slightly warm on standby. I also believe that ED uses a sealed box around their amps similar to the separate mdf enclosure inside the Empire. It stands to reason the Empire amp should not be getting that warm when not even in use.

I say that it's not that close only because I owned the Hsu VTF-3 subwoofer and it's side firing driver is often pointed at a couch though according to Hsu firing at a wall is fine provided you leave a few inches which is how I placed it.

Congrats on the sub. I remember Chad saying that only a few (3-4) inches of clearance were needed from the wall. I know when I had mine i had it stuffed in a corner and it sounded great.

It's funny how Epik says "no hum, ground loop free design" on their website yet immediately upon plugging it in there was a hum. But it's not a big deal. I will probably run a heavy duty extension cord to the front power strip like I did with the ED sub to stop its humming.
By the way, I absolutely love the sound of this sub now. Music and movies are both great. I watched this movie "Hanna" on BD last night and the bass was really amazing throughout. This sub is one of my favorite audio purchases along with my Emotiva UMC/UPA combo.

I wonder if the sub cable is causing the hum. When I disconnect it at the sub it goes away completely. I'm using an inexpensive monoprice 25 footer.

It's a ground loop that's causing that. Try unplugging the coax cable from your cable/satellite box (if you have one) and see if it goes away. Another thing to try is to plug in the sub into the same outlet as the rest of your setup.

Ok. I finally got around to trying to fix the hum that the Empire still has. I connected a thick extension cord from the power cable to main surge strip. If memory serves this was a fix for the hum my ED sub had. This however did not fix the Empires hum. I guess I could try disconnecting the antenna coax fwiw. I only have an antenna on the roof, no cable or satellite box. It is fed into the surge protector, out and up to the tv. Should I try connecting straight to the tv?
