Hi all. Have a question with my umc1. I have it hooked up through hdmi to my cablebox and ps3. Two issues.. while playing bluray dark knight...I noticed a.couple of times what appeared to be an audio drop and coinciding with the video glitch. Other than that ... Sounded outstanding! 2nd issue is when I flip channels on the cable the image turns greenish..or pinkinsh.. and it says no info in the osd box abouts two seconds.. and then its fine. Anyone can help.. its always appreciated.

HDMI does not play well with cable/satellite boxes, almost everyone with one uses component video and spdif instead. I solved the problem by getting rid of cable all together.

I have Brighthouse cable and Dish satellite and both gave me grief with HDMI. And that was with a Marantz receiver. I simplified with component and optical cables and the problem was gone.

Have you guys ever consider running HDMI from the cable box directly to the TV, and Opitcal from the TV to the UMC-1? Works like a charm! Reduce cable clutter to just 2 cables. No loss in audio or video! ;D

No difference at all with cable or sat TV. The only difference in sound between optical and HDMI would be with Blu Ray, since optical doesn't carry the lossless codecs.

I can't speak for the Oppo 95, but I wouldn't imagine that you would have any problems with it either. It doesn't seem like anybody has had any problems with BDPs or DVD players. Just cable and sat boxes, and some HTPC systems.

I don't use a cable box. So the cable from the wall goes directly to the TV. From the TV, I use optical cable to the UMC-1. From my Sony S550 BRP, I use HDMI to the UMC-1. I have instant locks, no audio drops. This connectivity is ideal as you get all the resolutions from the BRP. I doubt that cable broadcast 7.1 discrete / 1080p even with PPV. Also, I hate to beat this horse, but another poster who was having problem with his Verizon FIOS box, just reported that Verizon recently did a FW upgrade that resulted in instant locks via HDMI with the UMC-1. It also not only the UMC-1 that is having EDID issues with STBs. I little painless work around could open up a world of audio bliss that the UMC-1 seems to be. It is worth the try. One last comment before I jump off this pulpit. When you have any issue with the UMC-1 or any other Emo gear, give Emo a call first before coming to the forum. There are just too many 'negative folks' who hang out here ready to join the woeful chant rather than to think or scratch their heads to try to find a solution or give a word of encouragement. And oh! I'm a fanboy? Accepted!

well first of all i dont have the opportunity to get on the phone as i work in an operating room during the hours that they offer support. i just hooked it up for literally 2 days. so before giving directions..ask. i see no problem with seeking help from people who are experienced owners. thats what forums are for...discussions and information. i dont care who complains or dislikes whatever...i am very happy with my umc 1 and xpa5. and i plan on buying much more gear from them.whats imortant to me is to learn from people who i respect for thier help. if all else fails..then i would contact emotiva.

Have you tried a different HDMI cable with your PS3? Is your cable run excessively long?
While I don't have a UMC-1, I do have my TV hooked up to my AVR via optical cable as Jamrock has suggested and it works great.

I use the older mycablemart extreme HDMI cables from PS3 and HD PVR to the UMC.
PS3 works 99% of the time. PVR maybe 97% with either an audio or video drop out. Usually, changing the input selection brings the audio or video back.
I suggest a good certified HDMI cable for your system.
