With honest respect to edoggrc51, since you have 8K, I recommend the LS9s. There is nothing on this thread that can match it's dynamics and sheer power, yet show every detail. DR really made one heck of a line when he came out with these. I do have experience with these, as I own two pair and one pair of the LS6s. I also have multiple XPA-1s.

More honest respect given, but while one may achieve greater maximum SPLs with LS9s, for dynamics and detail it would be hard to beat Magnestand modified Magnepan 3.6R loudspeakers and a pair of Rythmik F15HP subwoofers. We're talking matching speakers that cost $50,000. Too bad they are not readily available for audition.

If you are a ribbon tweeter man, like me go for Aurum Cantus. I have a set up from Aurum Cantus, never heard voices, jazz, soul, classical so beautiful. It's like Emotiva a great bang for tha buck. The masterpiece off Aurum is the New Grand Supreme, goes for about 10 to 12 K. Now as introduction offer for about 9K. www.aurumcantus.com/aurumcantu-loudspeaker/loudspeaker_newsupreme.html

I love the way my Martin Logan SL3's sound with my XPA1's. You can find a great pair from time to time used for about 1000-1500 and if you need new panels they run 700 a pair. Well worth looking for something like that if you want to save yourself a bunch of money with a wonder outcome. If your were to buy the new version of the same thing they would be about 7000.00
Good luck

You might also consider, in the same philosophy of quality per dollar, or "bang for the buck", www.psbspeakers.com/products/tower-speakersI actually met Paul Barton at Saturday Audio in Chicago about a year ago - his design philosophy and the hands on demo made me a believer. It is not that I disagree with many of the previous postings, it is to me more the karma of good sound making good cents as with Emotiva

I think the answer should be clear to the op, buy whatever and you will end up writing that it's the best speaker of all time. Almost everyone put the speaker they own as the best. I agree I would go with Magnepan, Lol but if you read my signature you would already know that.

My advice is with a $10K budget, go shopping. Listen to as many systems as you can in person and buy whatever floats your boat. See if the retailer will allow an in-home audition before you buy. At $10K most will. It's too high a price point to rely on Internet opinions or to gamble on mail order (unless there is a 100% return policy with return shipping included.) IMO, anyway.

ProAc Response D28. I've had the Response 2.5(which are the predecessor to the D28)for 13 years and will never sell them Believe me, they are that good. www.proac-loudspeakers.comAt the time of the Stereophile review(2008)the D28 was $6k a pair. They may have gone up in price but I would think they would still be under $10k. Link to the Stereophile D28 review: www.stereophile.com/floorloudspeakers/808pro/

Lots of great choices with that much to spend. Like David said above, you just need to go shopping and pick what you like the best. Speakers are like women, lots of attractive choices, but you have to find the one that makes you happy. ;D In addition to those mentioned, others to audition would be Paradigm S8's, Sonus Faber Cremona, Salk soundscape, Selah Tre Supremo.

Yeah, just like women, you have to find one that makes you happy(like Brian said)and one that's not too finicky, and won't take too much of your money lol.
