Hi, guys I can't wait either! Haha... Teaser thread!!! It's all sat in boxes at the moment as I'm waiting to move into our new house, while I was waiting for the xpa and moving soon I thought I would pack away my speakers as they were just gathering dust but I regret it now because the xpa's are just sat here teasing me Some guys on this forum need to 'get some nuts fool' as mr t says on the snickers adverts because don't get me wrong these are heavy but not sliding them along the floor heavy.... That being said after I carried them both up stairs i did have a sweat bead or two pop out. I ripped the box open like a caged animal to see what I had been lusting over for 9 months and boy are these amps beautiful... At least with the black trims, the silver trims look a bit "tacky" as my partner commented so I quickly swapped them over. They look and feel quality, so far I'm happy with what I see but need to get them plugged in and running. Shipping was excellent with fed ex but stamp duty and tax cost me £408!!! That's a total cost of just over £1800 so these better sound every bit as good as the hype. Stay tuned, I should be in within the next week or two!!

pretty sure even with the tax, your not going to have any complaints..... I see you have the 683's with the xpa 2. What sounds better? The rotel or the xpa2? What are your overall thoughts of the b&w and emo combo?

Um I know what you mean, I've done a lot of demos with different amps and the difference between the really good ones regardless of price is tiny, this is why I've gone with the xpa1 because the power and capacitance should play a big role in bringing the speakers alive. I'm not getting my hopes up too much because I know when people describe things as a Huge difference with all this audio terminology things seem to sound vastly different when the difference is sometimes unnoticeable to the untrained ear......

No, you're never going to hear a huge difference(if at all)with two similarly designed solid state amps. They're not magic makers lol.

The main thing I'm after is plenty of detail, clarity in spades and DEEP well defined bass. From what I have read this is what I'm going to be getting so only time will tell. I cant wait ;D

What makes the XPA-1's special is their dynamics. That whack of the snare drum or percussive piano playing or big bang in a movie are what make them great. Quiet things are delicate and nuanced but when its time for them to speak up they do so with authority and are never strident or forward (source material dependent) I've been listening to some NAD stuff which I REALLY like a lot SQ wise, but even they don't have the hutzpah these things do. Kinda like putting a V8 engine in a go cart.... :-) Just loafing along waiting to scare the shitt out of you......
They are a steal for the money.....

I was listening to some solo pieces played by Hiromi Uehara and they sounded superb through the XPA-1's - very dynamic, and (to use that word again), effortless (not her, the amp).

You mentioned you changed out the silver trims. Are these reversible??? I was just thinking of pulling mine off to see...
I hope that you can stop teasing yourself soon! ;D

Pull those trim pieces off! The Emo gear looks sweet with just the silver screws imo, and they look even better with the black trim.

Those trim pieces are hideous IMHO. Don't know what emo is thinking. Better off nekkid.. Black rack handles might look nice instead..

^ Beauty is in the eye of the beerholder! My trim pieces are finished in ash wood to match the cabinet.

ahhh...I see! Well, that will be a fun little project when the rest of the gear gets here. Pull them off, prep and black satin paint...
