Samsung is announcing their 2012 products on Monday Jan 9 at 5:00EST. I am hoping the second generation of Smart TV has more memory and improvements at the least. The teaser here is prepare to be wowed. My DLP is starting to go out so now I am looking at the new stuff as I watch my current set begin to snow-flake-out on me. www.samsung.com/us/ces/Then there is the rumor of the new LG OLED TV which supposedly has an infinite contrast ratio and 1000 times faster refresh than current LCD or Plasma, 180 degree viewing angle. There are some issues with life expectancy on the image so I am hoping they have that solved. It does appear that this could be the next evolution in displays as Pauly noted earlier. LG 55" OLED

Netflix will look like crap on this. +1 My real point is that I still don't get how some people say physical media is dead, yet want a 8K display.

People love dreaming... They believe that their PCs will give them the keys to paradise alley. And unlock the doors to video Ultra High Definition heaven.

My real point is that I still don't get how some people say physical media is dead, yet want a 8K display. It's rather telling, no? The 'people' will start demanding more and more and more from equipment. And from the inter-genuflect-net. It just isn't possible. I'm with you. Physical media is NOT dead. When you local connection get's shut down for whatever reason, physical is always there. It's yours.

I agree, physical media is what I am used to,what I prefer, and for the largest part what I plan to stick with.

People love dreaming... They believe that their PCs will give them the keys to paradise alley. And unlock the doors to video Ultra High Definition heaven. If that is aimed at me... Maybe my coming here for advice was ill advised. I for one hate the poor quality video feeds that they offer today and having to wait for particular times to wait for a show. However, 700 VHS's and 380 DVD's later... We only now buy "The" Blurays we know we will enjoy many times over. Otherwise we just set the DVR on the DirectTV and watch them on poopyvision... One thing folks soon forget... Money makes the world go around, and one small corner of that world will not stop the rest... If FCC "Actually" let's companies stream and Cable Companies do the job they have been lying to us about (Actual usable bandwidth and speed) providing us for years now... I will stop buying the physical copies and put less garbage in our environment.

I can absolutely promise you that no one person was singled out as I know this poster well and it is merely a coincidence. Please enjoy yourself on the forum and we need your perspectives so thank you for being a part of it.

Hmmm, I did not see Afterburner's comment under the same light as you Reg. But thanks Reg for a true fact enumeration regarding my above comment; it wasn't addressed at anyone in particular. I thought that he simply commented on his general view regarding physical medias versus cyber space downloading. And by quoting me it was simply an easy avenue to do so, as I was referring to video quality from downloading in people's PCs. {And his first sentence (line)? ...Just a simple introduction for further 'approfondissement' on the subject matter.} That's my understanding. - Right now the best video quality is from Blu-rays. Sooo, physical medium. And 4K cameras of course. Tomorrow? I dunno; an improved physical media with more storage space for UHD* 4K? Perhaps. * Ultra High Definition. _______________________________ => Did you guys saw how thin an OLED HDTV is?

Thank you both...
Nearly all US Digital Downloads are butchered to meet the needs of "Fast downloads" and bandwidth issues we all have with our service providers. Nothing beats the physical medium in the US at this point. However in other Countries that do not have such a week foundation are reaping the rewards of a better delivery medium.
To the point that the margin between digital downloads and physical ones has greatly increased... In fact if you look at 1998 numbers they have flipped 180 degrees... Now once the 4k kicks into high gear that may slow down the numbers, but in reality the end is near for physical media for many reasons...
A few... It is significantly more profitable to offer digital than physical. They still pay the same rights fees, but no shipping, no handling, no postal increases, no "Lost copies", no defects, no sales inventory guesses, no inventory counts, no theft, etc etc etc. Viewing times can be placed on them for those that like to see a movie once or twice (Like the old video stores). And frankly, the Internet is what helped expedite the death of Video stores.
However, until (Not going political here) Corporate America decides to get off their piles of money and FCC wakes up. Physical Media will reign supreme... =]

^ I agree with all of that. Exactly, Bandwidth, that's what it's all about. - Looking forward into Blu-rays with 4K video resolution.
