At least four months ago, I usually like everyone else wait for things to go on blu-ray so I can see and hear them in my theater.

Cars II
My Son and I go to the movies every other month or so. We always go to a matinee and load up on Corn and Soda. During the week at the early shows it is usually just us and other little families. The movies is a great afternoon for us, especially in the colder months when outdoor activities are more difficult. We also play pinball in the game room in the foyer. In all reality going to the movies is more for the "event" of going, than for the movie.
I have not gone to the theater to see a movie for grownups in quite some time. I prefer to be a few months behind the big screen for the much better experience of watching them at home. I am sure that sentiment is shared by the majority here.

That is very true, darksky. I'll admit, that The Dark Knight in the Imax sounded and looked pretty good, but it really wasn't any better than watching it at home.

Plus, at home we get the thrill of ownership of such incredibly capable systems. Hooray Me!

It's been close to a year for us. There are a few coming out soon that look pretty good but we'll probably just wait for the BR.
I do love that movie theater popcorn though!!!!! ;D

The last century. I can't pause the movie in a theater to answer a support call.
Hey, Cgolf, I lived in Kingwood for 7 1/2 years. Yes, I really miss Carters Country now.

I typically avoid the theater for various reasons. I had boycotted going to theaters for a couple of years, but the lady friend wanted to go see something so I buckled and went. I have seen a couple in theaters since and naturally I didn't have high expectations.
When the new Sherlock Holmes came out she really wanted to go see it. She asked me to go, but then immediately said, "but it would probably sound better at your house". She's a quick learner ;D

I went yesterday. Took a tour of the Paramount Theater in Oakland, CA. It's a magnificent Art Deco movie house from the '30's. Unlike today's tiny suburban boxes, the Paramount is HUGE (seats 3000). It's undergone a complete restoration including a mondo Wurlitzer pipe organ. Nonetheless it contains all the latest technology as well.
Next week I'm going to go see Abel Gance's "Napoleon" there complete with a symphony orchestra. If you aren't familiar with it, "Napoleon" is a 5.5 hour silent movie, considered by some to be the greatest movie ever made. It hasn't been shown in the US for 30 years. It will be a marathon event complete with two intermissions and a dinner break!
I love going to the movies. Especially if you're lucky enough to live where there are still old-fashioned single screen theaters and/or a high-quality Imax theater.

Tin tin was good. I was so thankful they didn't ruin the series. Except for some iffy choices (crane battle), it was quite enjoyable. I really liked the whole style they used in the movie, quite unique.

I pretty much never go to the movies due to costs, inconsiderate people, an inability to pause for nature calls, and the fact that my MPS-1/XPA1 powered theater is much nicer.
Honestly, I'd be happy if I never went to a "professional" movie theater again.

Nothing like it in the Chicago area, unless you go down by Kankakee.

Overall PQ was astonishing, especially the water.

Most of the movies I watch they can't play at the local multiplex theater. Plus they don't rewind and play over and over the good parts like I do at home. Unfortunately, I think they have shut down the Green Parrot in Seattle.

Nothing like it in the Chicago area, unless you go down by Kankakee. Riding on the City of New Orleans, Illinois Central Monday morning rail Fifteen cars and fifteen restless riders, Three conductors and twenty-five sacks of mail. All along the southbound odyssey The train pulls out at Kankakee Rolls along past houses, farms and fields. Passin' trains that have no names, Freight yards full of old black men And the graveyards of the rusted automobiles.

The City of New Orleans doesn't roll through the old town any more and hasn't since my childhood.
