The new Model M1A has asynchronous USB so you dont need to purchase a V-Link for asynchronous USB but the new model is 750.00 I think or close to it . I had the V-Link already and purchased my M1 from audiogon this morning for 450.00 shipped so Im not in to deep at this point and if I dont like it I wont loose on this DAC they hold there price very well . I just dont know on a preamp because this DAC has no vol , I wonder if I buy a sonos if I can control vol this way then I wouldnt even need the V-Link either I will just stream from my server to the sonos make sense ?

I had a sonos 90 and 200 control abought it 2 yrs ago ended up selling it to the guy that bought my Integra 9.8

Also I read that you want to keep your DAC vol up high and control the volume with a preamp etc , so maybe trying to control the vol before the DAC is not good . Maybe that's why the Musical Fidelity M1 DAC has no volume control . I know I wouldn't need the V-Link if I use a sonos direct to the DAC and stream from the server, but it looks like the correct way is to ad a pre amp wow this is adding up now

You shouldn't have to pay sales taxes for anything since you don't seem to be the end user. ;D ;D

Okay, this will give us something to read while we wait for June. I have the v-link and the new v-dac II includes the async feature so you do not need two products and I am assuming that this product does not have the async feature but I am curious on how the in-home demo's go.

No it dont have the async feature I already had the v-link and the dac was less

So let me get this right….
I get me a musical fidelity v-link MKII stick it between the computer source and my XDA 1. This will give me a asynchronous USB data link download from the computer out to my XDA 1.
Damn you XDA1….first the cheesy 16 bit USB connection now this….I guess $250 doesn’t cover it all!
Thank you all

Real dacs don`t have volume controls, the XDA-1 volume control was a option Emo made, with not so good results, will be interesting to hear your thoughts on this one.

Thats what I said , with the XDA-1 you should turn the vol all the way up and use a USP-1 or so to control the vol . Thats why the better DACS dont have a vol control
