PG knows that the vast majority of members on this forum want to have the specs to back up the hype. I don't know why he acts so surprised that we demand the specs. While I rely on the specs to a certain degree, I'll never rely on another person's subjective feelings and opinions to make my purchase. C'mon PG, fess up! ;D Fess up? WTF? How many guys here own Emo subs? Plenty. What are the freq curves and spl output on those? Whoops..... not published by the manufacturer.......... Yeah, I need facts and figures for the sub thats going in my garage and in my three season porch..... You know I have an SVS PB12 plus and two Velodynes..... I'm not stoopid.... I know a little about music. I'll put my system against yours any day You know nothing about Sonos either.... It shows..... I disagree, we publish detailed specs and test reports on all of our gear. Take a look... we don't hide anything!

Yes sir! And, with my Sonos, it's great fun to be sitting on the deck by my pool and switch what I'm listening to for me and my guests as the party rolls on. And, in the middle of an 18*33 pool with kids splashing and martini's sloshing...what's a little frequency response between friends? But...down in the man cave...EmoQ me ASAP! Mark

I know a little about music. I'll put my system against yours any day You know nothing about Sonos either.... It shows..... I disagree, we publish detailed specs and test reports on all of our gear. Take a look... we don't hide anything! I stand corrected on the Emo specs. I remember when the first subs came out there was very little in the way of specifications - there even was a couple of threads about it. Thats certainly changed :-) As you can see by my signature, I like good equipment and I certainly have made a commitment to Emotiva. I have a good bit of Sonos and its great for its intended purpose. Its very useful to just be able to pick up a Play 5 speaker and just carry it to where ever I need it, the garage, the back patio, out on the lawn when were playing horse shoes etc. I even moved my zone bridge upstairs one day as was able to bring 2 Play Fives to my neighbors house and just ran it with my iPhone.... Now thats portability! For me, the portability of the Sonos product outweighs its shortcomings. I just thought an integrating/compatible sub would be great for all these uses I have listed. I have two rooms for some Emo powered, Snell "speakered" serious listening... The Sonos is more about convenience and casual listening. But all in all It's an impressive product and its SQ is very good. Even sending the Sonos signal through The Emo stuff yields quite good results. It's lossless iTunes data its streaming so even though my Snells it sounds pretty darn good. I have tried other subs in these remote locations using an aftermarket wireless sub trans/reciever and while it worked quite well, it interfered with the Sonos network so I had to abandon it. Thats why this is good news for Sonos users that would like a little more bottom to go wither Play Three/Fives or whatever else they might be using. In fact I think this technology might be the way forward and Emotiva would be well served to have a look at this market. Sonos has grown exponentially in the past five years, and they have done that simply because they build great products that work and offer unlimited tech support... Sound familiar? No, this is not Bose, they just work very hard on proprietary designs and feel it's their intellectual property. The Sub isn't out yet and some are already poo pooing it....... Of course, those people have no Sonos gear at all.

I also love the portability of the Play 5. To be able to plug it in anywhere and get to all my music anywhere in the house or outside in places I don't have sound is fantastic.
This morning, I was outside working by the pool and listening to my Definitive Technologies rock out Grateful Dead live (powered from my ZP120) while I did some re-grading around the pool. The sound was very good. Speaking of pool...I think it's time to go relax in it w/my kids and nieces/nephews and rock out some more. But...I may get stuck w/XM's Disney Channel thanks to the girls.

I finally got in touch with my friend Dan who's the transducer designer at Sonos. Yes, the system design team was someone else, but Dan Wiggins designed the drivers. I asked if they were flat panels. Here's his reply:
Hi David, Not a flat panel – just a one-piece curved polypropylene cone – standard construction otherwise. It’s a pretty high output little beasty, will hit 105db easily, fairly low THD for the output. TONS of power – 800W RMS for up to 60 seconds (300W for essentially ever). The output is through the slot in the center – two drivers and two ports empty through that space. Blends nicely with our Play:3 and Play:5 speakers, as well as another amazing product releasing in October this year!

I'm pretty sure this will be a pretty nice piece. No, it won't compete with my SVS PB12 Plus, but it should do just fine w/music. 105db is pretty good..
All the Sonos gear is well made and has very high SQ..

105 dB where? Is that a foot away outdoors? indoors? Did you buddy give you anymore info on it David? if thats outdoors or chambered, thats fairly impressive for what it is. If it's indoors in some testing room, that's not very impressive at all.

Wow...Someone should take this entire tread and send it over to Sonos. I doubt their own die hard customers have had this much heated and passionate debate over it. Doc. Makes for good reading .

Most naysayers don't own any Sonos. Its not intend to be some crushing HT sub, but rather one that compliments their other products providing some decent bottom. Best part is it portable and wireless. Can't wait to put a Play 5 and that sub out on my deck for parties...

Sonos makes great poducts and the user interface is superb. I own two ZP90 Connects and a Bridge. Controller is an ipad via free app. Their customer service is top rate as well. The Sonos gear does a great job streaming, but all sampling rates on all music is limited to 44.1KHZ. I'm sure the sub will be a fine product.
