I always enjoy the "Sandstorm" scene from Flight of the Phoenix, especially when the plane does a barrel roll.

I'm also partial to Master and Commander...the cannon fight scene. Truly awesome surround affects.

If you are looking for movies with amazing audio I suggest trying the latest spate of comic book films. Iron Man 1 & 2 Hulk (Edward Norton) Thor Captain America Transformers 1, 2, & 3 Avengers etc. etc. Has Avengers been released? LOL! Oops! Not yet. It is scheduled to come out on Sept. 25th. I am sure this will become a go to demo disc for many people however. +1 to Master and Commander. That opening sounds absolutely phenomenal. Also Rambo 4 sounds amazing and is a 7.1 audio track to boot.

By far the best demo disc is the SCUBASTEVE Disc. Why?? Because it has almost all of the scenes mentioned so far in this thread and then some.

I also love Master and Commander. It's my go-to disc for demos. However, I need to buy it on DVD to compare to the BD version. Supposedly the BD version has a 25hz filter on it, and a lot of people say the DVD sounds better because it has much better(lower)bass. I'm sure a lot of you guys have read that thread on AVS. Has anybody compared the DVD to the BD?

My new amp arrives on Tuesday. I'm thinking I need to buy a new Blu-Ray to test it out once it's hooked up. If I buy one new demo disc, what would you suggest? Sounds like you're looking for a movie with great sound then (vs. justa music source?). If so here are some greats!: "Master & Commander" "Saving Private Ryan" (has anything beat that D-Day beach landing for audio yet?!) "Cloverfield" "Crazy Heart" "Slumdog Millionairie" "Taken" "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" "The Hurt Locker" "The Town" "War Horse" Enjoy! (And be sure to report back your experiances! )

+1 for Master and Commander.
Terminator Salvation is also pretty good.
If you like something a little older, I would recommend the latest remastered Apocalypse Now (I believe it was released last year) - it is very good (plus the soundtrack is great).
For concerts, +1 for Eagles - Hell Freezes Over. I would also recommend Return to Forever - outstanding reference sound.

Do a search on AVS. There are apparently 2 versions of the disk. I've no idea of the difference as I dont have it.

The 1st version had a music section. Both versions share some of the more popular scenes, but personally I like the newer volume 2 better. Like Hemster suggested, check out the AVS site.

I found references to the project on the AVS site. From what I gather, you have to have burning and authoring software and download it to your hard drive. Even if I had a Blu-Ray burner, this looks to be quite a project. Can the disc be purchased?

You used to be able to purchase it, but i think copyright laws started coming into play so he stopped selling the disc. To be honest after buying my copy a while back I stopped following the thread so I'm not exactly sure how things stand now.

I have version 2. My buddy has both versions. Both are great disks. I would have liked to see some of the music on version 2.
