Just to prevent confusion for anyone skimming, that's a 15A plug. Yes, below is a photo of a 20A Hospital Grade outlet. The green dot on the outlet signifies it is Hospital Grade.

And for some more trivia.... 'The green dot on the face indicates it's "hospital grade outlet"(tested more frequently on the production line to insure quality, especially blade and ground pin retention) These are priced at a premium. Orange faced outlets are used to indicate "isolated ground". Red faced outlets are used to indicate "generator or backup up power" ' Gray outlets typically indicate industrial/spec. grade devices. And you can have combinations, like a IG, TVSS, hospital grade outlet ( emotivalounge.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=gotopost&board=amps&thread=25055&post=419460 )

How many output devices per channel? How many output devices total? I got an email back from Vincent Chen @ Emotiva (Thanks Vincent). I've updated the FAQ: How many output devices are there? Each PWB (channel/module) contains 12 devices. On each PWB there are 6 on the top and 6 on the bottom. There are a total of 60 output devices (12 devices x 5 channels).

Nice thread Jim!
One tiny error is that both recepticles 15a and 20a are an incorrect mirror image of the real actual items, this is to say that they are negatives flipped and there are no such actual items available as you have posted. As such, the 20a plug you have posted (which is correct) cannot be pluged into the pictured 20a item. However, the recepticle pictured above is correct.
Kindest regards,
HtinP

Does this amp have built in fans to cool the unit down? Good question, updated FAQ: Does the XPR-5 have fans? The XPR-5 is passively cooled with substantial heatsinking (Much like the XPA series). It has no fans (unlike the Mini-X A-100 or UPA500 that do have fans that turn on under load).

For a European customer, the USA powerplug is not suitable of course. I tried with an adapter but this was a very bad connection. If you want to make still good use of the very thick power cord Emotiva provides, simply cut of the unsuited USA plug and replace with a 2 x 230 V + earth professional grade rubber power plug like I did. Do not get the blue or red pro powerplugs since these are 3 x 230 V (blue) or 3 x 380 V (red). Hereby a picture of the finished item and a normal Belgian powercord + plug in comparison. Attachments:

How much current does this amp draw when in idle (preamp 12V signal off)? I met Nick Hetzler @ CEDIA (who is a great guy by the way) - and asked him. I realized that I misinterpreted your question though -- when it's idle but powered on, he said that it's less than 100w. I realized that you were really asking about standby mode -- unfortunately don't have an answer for that. And to the other poster - Nick didn't know off the top of his head re: how long it stays in class A. Chances are, it's probably around 1w like many of the other Emo amps. It actually becomes more efficient once it exceeds the class A output.

How much current does this amp draw when in idle (preamp 12V signal off)? I was testing my XPA-1s and UPA-7 with a Kill-A-Watt today, if the XPR-5 is anything similar, it's about 1W when the amp is in standby mode (12v trigger off)

does anyone know if the XPR amps are fully balanced like the XPA-1 ? I'm not 100% sure, but I believe the XPA1 is the only model that's fully balanced.

No, Dan (or Lonnie) did say that the XPR-5 is also fully balanced but you'll have to look for the post if you don't believe me. I can't say where that post was located. Cheers.

I believe they were talking about the XPR-1 specifically and not the others as to whether it was fully balanced
