Just got off the phone with Emo.... It is definitely discontinued and there is currently no plan to come out with another 10 inch sub.

This brings up the question about the Emotiva business model when they bring products to the marketplace and discontinue them within a year of their introduction. Does this allow them to "test the waters" so to speak? Or do they base production on continuous assessment of units sold? I would think it expensive to spend the R&D on something just to let it go after a year.

Yeah jackfish im not really sure about that r&d aspect. My guess would be a complete lack of sales. I could see them being made to order (alot like elemental designs was doing) but emo doesn't even make these units. There is always alot of talk about ID companies and being able to cut out the middle man to save the customar money. However in this case it seems as though Emotiva is the middle man. I decided to order 2 Lava subs instead. Im sure they won't be as good but Lava does give you a 30 day trial period and they were 40% less thean the x-ref 10 was gonna be. Ive had many subs over the last few years and thought I would give Emo a shot here because of the physical size of the x-ref 10. oh well.

That would signify an interest in only making home theater subs and no that wouldn't be cool.
(to the comment about having only 15's and 18's)

So far, I'm still grooving my x-ref 12s.. No issues, and no worries. Sad to see the 10 go, though. As an owner of the x-ref 12 this makes me concerned that maybe this product is not really living up to it's expectations and that may be why it is being replaced. Or...

I'm confused myself.
I've only been in the emotiva game since last Sept/October, with the purchase of an Ultra-12 on clearance. I'm unfamiliar how long these product cycles are...but 1 year seems very short for a subwoofer?

Well, its simple. If it does not sell good enouth, it has to go. It is probably not entirely due to the size, 10 inch can work pretty well for a subwoofer. But customers expectation with subwoofers are more the like including an automated measurement system. DSP alone is only half of the game. Anyhow, should there come another one sometime soon, dear Emotiva team, please also remenber to include a 12 volt trigger!

I got one of the early 10s (with the wood veneer finish, not the smooth matt) and I love it. It's a solid performer.

Hi all, my Xref arrived 10 in good shape and it performs as expected. One question, what tricks am I missing to get the beast to fire up from an analogue source, DVD-Audio player.
It wakes from the same player with a digital signal, likewise cable box and WD TV Live/AppTV both HDMI.
Any ideas?

Do you have a UMC-1? If so, how is the analog source connected?

Hi Geebo, yes UMC-1 connected to DVD-Audio via the Analog inputs, top left as you look at the back of the unit. In line with the manual's instructions.

Make sure you have your analog input set to "Stereo" not "Direct."

The 7.1 analog inputs on the UMC can only be direct. No option to change the listening mode. So if you have only a left and right signal going to those inputs, you will not get any sub activity.

Yes, if you're using the 7.1 channel analog outputs from a DVD-A player, then use the 7.1 inputs. If the DVD-A has subwoofer information you'll get it. On the other hand, if you are listening to CDs with just the L-R outs from your player, use a stereo analog input on the UMC-1 and set it to "stereo" to use a subwoofer.

I don't know what kind of player you have, but with my Oppo 93 I have a connection from the 7.1 analog outs to the UMC analog ins on the UMC. I then setup the Oppo by telling it I have small fronts and a subwoofer. I also set the downmix to 2 channel and set the crossover to 60. A left, right. and sub connection is made between the Oppo and UMC and the sub works just fine.
Or, as DYohn suggests, it might be easier to use an analog stereo input, such as CD, and then just set the listening mode to something other than direct.

Thanks for the replies, always a wealth of knowledge. I am using an old, about to be replaced Pioneer DV-696 AV. It has 5.1analogue outs which go to the analogue in ports on UMC. I also use HDMI out from player to UMC and fiddle around with different settings.
Anyway in tweaking some crossover settings things have improved, not ideally though. I have my fronts at 90Hz, centre 90Hz, surrounds 90Hz - all ERM6.2s and the Xref10 set to 110. How these settings measure up? Also changed analogue input from direct to stereo in advanced setup. The Sub speaker level is set to 0db on UMC and 0db on Sub.

Sorry to see the X-Ref10 go. I'm really glad I pulled the trigger on a pair over the summer instead of waiting.
I find it hard to believe they didn't sell well. I was between a pair of Epiks, Outlaws or the Emotiva 10s. I decided on the Emotiva due to satisfaction with the other Emotiva gear I have purchased, as well as the fact that I had a size requirement, which the Emotiva fit better.
