;D Well ladies and gents. Just got this heavy beast installed in the rack next to my denon 4308ci and xpa5. I have been listening to xpa2 for about an hour. First impressions so far: I was so pumped up and ready to be blown away....I was like what is going on here....the volume levels where I normally would listen sounded not as loud and not much bass. By the point I was starting to sweat and my heart was pounding .... WAIT a minute!!!! I forgot I was watching a movie last night and used the NIGHT MODE. I forgot to turn it off. What a relief. MY heart was pounding OMG I was SOOOOO upset. lol But everything is ok now. Compared to the xpa5 I noticed better bass, better imaging. Very loud. A9's seem transparent. Soundstage is larger... It seems that the a9's are blending better with the velodyne sub that I have. I am listening to Ronnie Earl. Blues Jazz artist. No vocals, just straight guitar playing. The guitar never sounded so good. Imaging is fantastic, bass nice and solid. Highs nice and crisp. I remember listening to the same song last night with the xpa5, I don't remember it sounding this good. Going to put in Jimmy Thackery-another blues artist-Album call Jimmy Thackery Guitar. I've listened to this CD well over 100 times. I have to say it sounds GREAT!!! Better then the XPA5. The xpa5 is no slouch either, but hands down the xpa2 is the clear winner. Bass is great. Listening to it on -12db. My hair on the back of my neck is standing up. I listened to the a9's with and without my sub. We are all so spoiled nowadays having a dedicated subwoofer. The a9's sounded good, but having a dedicated sub is hands down way to go. If the wife lets me might be adding another.... More to come

A nice first posting on your new toy! And I sure understand all that initial anxiety when you first think things aren't working right! (I myself am thinking of laying in either an XPR-5, or an XPA-2 & XPA-3. Haven't made up my mind yet, and still have to build the ventilated cabinet anyway, so this fall likely...). Some more postings on your views would be appreciated as you get even more used to the new set-up, and get more experience with it. (You might want to post some photos too?). Thanks again!

That's very encouraging to a fellow Emotivian like myself. I would love to add an XPA-2 to upgrade my system and advance my music listening pleasure. I have recently been listening to high end headphones that have subsequently raised my hearing sensitivity. Therefore, I'm thinking that the XPA-2 should be a better fit for me; as opposed to the ~200 wpc XPA-3. I'm going to the EF this week and I'll see which amp will fit my wallet. I'm always happy to hear/read when a new purchase (sacrifice) gives that satisfying feeling... That's why we love this hobby.
Enjoy as often as possible. ;D

Emofest is a great time to pick up a amp at insane prices; plus you get to hear it for yourself! If you can't get one at Emofest there are always deals out there. Picked up mine almost 2 years ago for $600 shipped. Best $600 I've ever spent. I really wasn't expecting the change in sound over the XPA-5 and, while it is not so dissimilar from it, it sounds so nice with my system that it was like going from margarine to butter.

Yeah, the XPA-5 is also a possibility (instead of the XPA-3), so maybe I should order another pair of my JBL ES30s that I use for surrounds now, before they're not made anymore and just store them away until I go '7.2'? They're on sale right now for a great price - but how do I explain to my better half that "these are for later..."?

The Mad Norsman, you tell her that they were on clearance-I got them for $100. I bought my speakers, AVR, and xpa 2 by telling her that they were on clearance. I always got away from it every time. Maybe one day, I will be dead.

I'll have to keep that in mind. Then there's always the technique where you buy them, put them in place, and then when she notices, you just claim they've "been there for awhile, you didn't notice?" "That amp down there on the bottom shelf?" "Yeah, got that bad boy about six months ago during the last Emo sale, remember?" CLANG! (That's the sound of a cast iron frying pan hitting the back of the Mad Norseman's head!).

I'm wanting a new XPA-2. Just waiting for a sale. I live in TN so paying sales tax is a bummer.

George is right, most of the time you can't tell the difference between un-opened A-Stock or B-Stock. If you get lucky like I did at EmoFest 2011, you can win $200, (or was it $250?) in EmoBucks and get an XPA-2 at an unbelievable price. ;D
Oh yeah, welcome to the Lounge Dave!!!
