Received mine today. Forgot how heavy they were. My first ones both buzzed. The new ones have no buzz. Sound great. For those that have wanted an Emotiva toaster, these come pretty darn close. More to come.

Yup, put your hand over the heat sinks and you can feel the glow.
It's a school night so I can't go into excruciating just yet but I've listened to CDs, HDCDs, SACDs, DVD-As and Blu-Ray Audios and I'm a happy guy. Listening to Jennifer Warnes' Ballad of a Runaway Horse now. I've always had a thing for her and now she's in my living room. All the delicate details, air and beautiful bass are right there. Elvis Is Back SACD Fever, what a lovely way to burn. Plus I got a hat!

wow this is great news xpa 1ls heat your igloo nice benefit... whats the longest rca cable you could run from avr to the xpa 1l ? im thinking park them behind or near the speakers for maximum heating and best convection cooling... cheers. The maximum length depends on several things: the quality of the cable (including capacitance, inductance, and resistance), the quality of the shielding, and how much interference is already present. Unbalanced cables tend to accumulate noise as length increases. Personally, I don't like to use unbalanced runs longer than 15-20 feet (4.5 to 6 meters). For long runs, you really want to use balanced XLR cables. If that's not possible, use high-quality cable and try to route the unbalanced cables away from power cables and high-current devices. Well I got home, unpacked XSP-1 and 2 x XPA-1L. These damn things cost me the first period of the hockey game. I am happy to report no problems whatsoever. They do run a little warm but these things sound awesome to me. Basically, I will be grinning from ear to ear for the next few weeks I'm sure. Thank you for passing on the info. It's much appreciated. I've updated the running tally here. So far the majority of these round three amplifiers are working properly! Enjoy your fantastic two-channel system!

Hi, Got my xpa-1L's here today. First of all, plugged straight into wall: dead quiet, no squeal, hum, hiss or anything, These are more quiet than my xpa-5 (which I never considered noisy in any way). Switch to class A, let warm up for 30 minutes. Mmm, they smell good! First impressions: Stunned, really, this is to me, a real different level here compared to my good old xpa-5. Dynamics, transients, frequency extension. Blown away. "Need to play my entire record collection again, toninte!"- good. Class A vs. AB: After some listening I decided to try the class AB mode - The difference it not subtle to my ears. In class AB, it moved closer to the xpa-5 sound, yet still more detailed. But, some of the engaging dynamics and effortlessness seemed to go down a notch. These will stay in class A around here, no doubt. Anyway, just wanted to post my first impressions here. Already planning on getting one more for my center channel! Bottom line: Love, love the way these sound in my system. Back to listening here!

More to come. Outstanding! Glad to hear these two are working properly now. I agree with you about the Emotiva Toaster! ;D I JUST BOUGHT ONE!!! We'll see how it works. This is the first time I've ordered a product from Sherbourn; parting with $89 has never been so easy. Yup, put your hand over the heat sinks and you can feel the glow. Heaven knows they spent a fortune on us...

Hi menez,
Wow, you've got a great system. I bet those Gallos just sing with these amps. Thanks for dropping by to share the initial feedback.
Oh yeah, I love the pics and the way you've splayed out the CDs in front of the amps. ;D

menez, If I can offer some unwanted advice, I'd get those puppies up off the carpet, stat.
i'm going to a better solution soon but I put thick wood blocks under the feet to allow for convection cooling to happen.
Congratulations and I agree, these babys sound fantastic and I'm not bothering to switch to A\B unless the sound is off.

Oh yes, that is just temporary for tonite. Hmm, do I smell some melting carpet here after 5 hours of class A

Ack, I should have said "discs" instead of CDs. Silly me. I give your reference collection a "thumbs up."

Deltadude, the old Adcom GFA 535 was 60 watts per channel continuous. It was a good soldier. I really only used it to access my vinyl in my basement. I just jettisoned a pool table and I am setting up a dedicated two channel room. I still need to add more furniture, perhaps acoustic panels and a scotch bar:)

im looking at about 4 to 6 ft so np then..? Four to six feet is OK. I use 2 meter (6.5 feet) unbalanced interconnects with no problems. I still recommend using high-quality cable with proper shielding, but at these lengths, there should not be any problem.

Love the pics! Glad to hear people are getting back functioning units. Even at reference volumes, my XPA-3 and UPA-7 feel slightly warm. I imagine the A/B mode would be about the same. Does the Class A mode really add that much heat to be called a toaster?

The Class a is a lot warmer than class a/b. You really need to let it breath in class a.

^ What amp were you using before the 1Ls; any noticeable improvement? Have you done some serious listening since getting them?

Love the pics! Glad to hear people are getting back functioning units. Even at reference volumes, my XPA-3 and UPA-7 feel slightly warm. I imagine the A/B mode would be about the same. Does the Class A mode really add that much heat to be called a toaster? The UMC-1 used to be the warmest component in my rack. The 1L took that crown. ;D Here are some quick measurements I took with a non-contact infrared thermometer tonight. Ambient: 77 F (25 C) UPA-500 top chassis cover: 82 F (27.8 C) XPA-200 top chassis cover: 87 F (30.6 C) UMC-1 top chassis cover: 100 F (37.8 C) Class A/B modeXPA-1L top chassis cover: 116 F (46.7 C) - measured on the smooth metal part between the two heatsink vents XPA-1L top chassis cover: 118 F (47.8 C) - measured on the two heatsink vent strips Class A modeXPA-1L top chassis cover: 137 F (58.3 C) - measured on the smooth metal part between the two heatsink vents XPA-1L top chassis cover: 149 F (65.0 C) - measured on the two heatsink vent strips The amp has about 4 inches of clearance above it, and then there's a shelf. However, all four sides allow adequate breathing room. The shelf supporting the 1L is also warm to the touch from the exhaust vents underneath the amplifier. When the amp is running full-bore in Class A, it's very uncomfortable to keep my hand on top of the chassis cover for more than five seconds. Is it dangerously hot? No, definitely not. In fact, I've sometimes seen the amperage meter drop a few tenths during idle. I suspect that is the thermal monitoring system gently throttling back the Class A threshold to control temps. Is the 1L a real toaster? Nah, but it's definitely the hottest thing in my rack. I'm hoping the Sherbourn C-12 (delivering Monday!) will be able to dump the majority of that heat out the back. Heat is one of the worst enemies for electronics. I'd like to ensure the 1L runs as cool as possible to ensure maximum performance and longevity.
