Matt, Don't know what reason for the screw in the middle of one of your XPA-1's, but I've looked at my XPR-5 and it has one in the middle also, though my XPA-2 & XPA-5 don't. My XPA-5 has the center screw...

"I listen to music around 95-105db. That's like a watt lol. If I wanted to, I could get them to 130db. " Wow. I am speechless.... Almost. I am *not* hammering you, Kraemer, but, IMHO, this is the worst sort of overkill. It's akin to rabbit hunting with a 12 ga. Why didn't you opt for better-quality, lower-powered amps instead? Oh, never mind, I think I know - you did it because you could. Carry on. -RW- One heads-up for you - if you value your hearing at all, you should *seriously* consider backing that volume down a bit. See the "chart" below. I can tell you that I find a vacuum cleaner very noisome and even wear earplugs when vacuuming my home. My hearing, despite my advanced years<g>, is really quite sensitive. I can hear it when my son turns on the overhead fan in his room, with both our doors closed, AND I'm wearing -32db earplugs. Back in my audio-selling daze, I came to be very protective of my hearing - I never, *ever* want to lose the extreme joy I derive from my favorite music... OSHA requires employers to take steps to reduce exposure levels when the TWA reaches 90 dB(A) 0 db Threshold of hearing 30 db Whisper 40 db Buzz of mosquito 50 db Normal conversation 70 db Vacuum cleaner 100 db Subway or power mower 120 db Rock concert 130 db Jackhammer or machine gun 150 db Nearby jet plane You're assuming things. When i said 130db, that's for a very short period of time. Just to see what it can do. Also being a machinist, I have numerous pieces of hearing protection. So i have ear muffs on. Yes it sounds silly. But i had them on anyways. The bass was so tremendous, it was shaking the windows upstairs. I value my ears more than my gear. On to your question on low powered amps. I have numerous amps at the moment. From an 8 watt tube amp to these 1,000 watt monos. I've made gain clones with around 25 watts per channel as well. The XPA-1 is a very high quality amp in my book.

I've been noticing this more and more on this forum recently. Can't people just be happy for the guy. I mean jeeze. None stop complaining.
Why did i get this amps? Well i traded my turntable for them with Big Dan while i was at EmoFest.
I've always wanted a pair. Now i have a pair. I'm happy with them.
Be happy. Stay positive. With negativity comes a life full of sadness.
I wake up with a smile on my face each day and nothing will change that.

^^^ well said.
New amps are fun... new toys are fun... music is fun.
Plus, the XPA-1 will probably be acting in Class A mode most of the time you're using it, and that's pretty cool.

I've discovered that empathy is something not understood and prevalent in today's society. Add to it that some folks are strongly opinionated, and that creates a wonderful mix of frustration and resentment (among other things) between the two or more parties involved. This conflict contributes negatively with maintaining healthy relationships, keeping a positive outlook, and finding satisfaction in life. We humans really are fascinating creatures. Why did i get this amps? Well i traded my turntable for them with Big Dan while i was at EmoFest. I figured as much.

A 100db plus sensitivity speakers and 1000 watt amps on each speaker. Can your ear really handle that much of a volume? Is this system meant for rock concert arena? I listen to music around 95-105db. That's like a watt lol. If I wanted to, I could get them to 130db. The chart rlw provides above is a good information. Audiometric studies detail how long you can safely be exposed to loud noise over time. About 60 percent of military personnel have significant hearing loss from noise exposure. A little crank of the volume to 85-95db works for me from time to time, but not for a sustained period of time. I stay around 75db to 85 db mostly. I use an android app called Sound Meter Pro to keep an eye on the sound pressure delivery. I don't want to speak for rlw, but I think he was looking out for your best interests, your hearing. Either way, Enjoy your new amps. New equipment is always a joyous day. Have fun.

Great video, Matt. Thanks for sharing. I was wondering if you'd show the SPL readings. I actually guessed the levels were 95 dB - 100 dB, so that was nice to see confirmation. The camera mic does surprisingly well. ...and the XPA-1s were just idling.

Are those home brew equipment racks? They look pretty sturdy. No they are from Audio Advisor. Salamander makes really rigid racks and stands. The prices aren't an arm and a leg either.
