Almost forgot... Haven't re-tried this sequence on the new subwoofer yet (still scared ;-))... late in the first "The Mummy" movie, the village idiot leans on and throws a switch which causes all of the rock-wall sliding doors to slowly descend and close off the tomb (?). When we first watched this at home, with my former SW (nowhere near as potent as the current one), this massive subterranean rumble scared the heck out of me, and I grabbed the remote to lower the volume!

Movies: Opening of Star Wars II "Attack of the Clones", when the ship carrying Amidala is flying in. Every time her ship passes by, the thrumming of the engines is pretty amazing, and then... boom... it blows up on the landing pad. I have the DVD, I don't know how the Blu-ray with presumably more wide-open audio compares [newer not always better - The Tyrannosaurus Rex walking booms of the original Jurassic Park are more potent in the earlier LaserDisc version than DVD, bummer! Don't have the Blu-ray] Opening sequence of U-571, allied destroyer depth-charges the sub after the sub blows up an allied ship. DVD again. There's more depth-charge action later on too, once the Americans take over the U-boat. Hunger Games (Blu-ray)... near the beginning a large hovercraft appears over our heroine and boyfriend, in the woods. I think the bass here is somewhat stronger nearer to 60Hz than super low, but before I started trimming and attempting to equalize my SW response it was shaking the room ;-) Music: On the Boston Audio Society test disc, track three is a several minute excerpt from the slow (and mostly quiet) movement of Saint-Saens Symphony No. 3 "for organ and orchestra". There are pedal notes that go down to 16 Hz. I believe that most commercial recordings of this work do not have the pipes to do this. You can also play with the audio sweeps of this disc too. There's also low booms on track 10 (The Long Ships) of Enya's Watermark album, and of course don't forget Bela Fleck's Flight of the Cosmic Hippo! I'll second your Bela Fleck recommendation. I have two of his albums, Greatest Hits of the 20th Century (Flight of the Cosmic Hippo is on this one) and Rocket Science. Recording quality is excellent and I enjoy the music as well - lots of great bass.

I love the bass on Raising Sand By Krauss and Plant, especially the 24/96 download! The whole album has this atmospheric, rolling bass that makes people's eyes open a little wider the first time they hear it.
I like Tangled Rose and Sister Rosetta Goes Before Us especially. I am not sure how T Bone Burnett got those bass booms to sound so musical and complex, but there they are.
Oh yeah, the music is wonderful!

If you have your system set up properly, you don't need to play anything in particular, the subwoofer will do it's thing no matter what.

Cloverfield makes my couch shake, and sections of Hanna caused me recal the sub levels to accomodate - especially early in the film when a plane flies over Hanna. Also the animated film "9".

Also try: Master and Commander (particularly the first fight in the fog).
Your room/house should sound like it's being hit by cannon fire. Also the feet running above decks is particularly nice with "high" channel speakers (PLIIz).

I found the soundtrack to "Brave" - a Pixar Animation/Disney offering - to be very good indeed. It is done with DTS Master-HD, the best there is...

Can't believe no one has suggested War of the Worlds. More LFE then any other Blu I've watched.

You will find some real foundation busting music in these CDs from REFERENCE RECORDINGS. These are mostly music played on the giant pipe organs across the United States.

Seriously the Blu-ray of the train wreak scene in the movie "Super 8" is the best for this (see my reply #10 above). No better test - guaranteed! ;D

Super 8 is ok. But there are much better subwoofer torture scenes out there.

Oh man, I *loves* that album! It is great all-around, and Stevens' guitar playing is among the best I've ever heard. The surround mix is superlative. This is a *must-have" album!

Saint Saens Symphony No. 3 provides 16 Hz organ notes. Get the Deutsche Grammophon 419 617-2 recording with James Levine and the Berlin Philharmonic. The notes are actually there on that recording.
