Hello, all. I am sitting here listening to the Telarc recording of Stravinsky's Firebird Suite, and it sounds so amazing that I had to make a post. Ever since the XSP-1 was added to my system, the imaging is SO much more focused (on good recordings) than when I was running the XDA-1 directly to my amp. I can tell where everyone is sitting -- even within a group of instruments (flute 1 vs. flute 2 in the woodwind section). Also, there seems to be less edge in the high end -- it really sounds natural. This preamp is awesome. I think the addition of the Rhythmik F12 sub to my system also helped to expand the width / depth of the soundstage -- but I don't think that would add focus Everything also seems a touch more detailed -- I am a very happy camper. ;D I have an XDA-2 on the way (I am looking forward to comparing it with the XDA-1). I have my XDA-1 volume set to 80; should I set the XDA-2 to 0.0dB ?? Since it is lossless, I guess it doesn't make much difference...but what would you guys do? Thanks!

I wound up with my XDA-2's volume control at -20. I selected that based on the control on my preamp and getting just the response I like with it.

The volume control appears different from the xda-1 so I wouldn't know what you would need to have the regular standalone DAC line out.

Time for the Emo-folks to chime in regards of the Volume control on XDA 2

So there seem to be two questions: - Is there a setting on the XDA-2 where the volume control is out of the circuit (0 dB?) (it is reported that 80 on the XDA-1 meets this condition) - What setting on the XDA-2 produces the same level as 80 on the XDA-1 (this is more interesting than useful)
For the second question you could use a Test CD or file to measure the output of the XDA-1 at 80, and then find the point on the XDA-2 where the output is equal. I may do this next week when my XDA-2 shows up.
