My friend just bought a new house and I sent him that picture, telling him I found the perfect pair of back speakers for his new home theater system.

I am using Mirage OMD-5's. I love them! Look like great speakers but discontinued! Why do these companies constantly discontinue highly rated products!

I absolutely will never use anything other than floor standing "full range" loudspeakers for surrounds. Right now, I am using Revel Concerta F12s. Soon, these will be Revel Performa3 F208. Music only set up I guess? Nope. Movies and music.

GR-Research AV-1 RS I built these from a kit. They are mounted on the wall and reflect the sound from the ceiling. I like them and the reflected sound is quite convincing. Hmm,very interesting.I wonder how these would work in a situation where the seating is pushed back pretty much against the rear wall making conventional rear surround placement impractical? These work very well in situations like you describe. I like them much better than more traditional setups that are close to the wall. However, I think it is recommended that you have a minimum of a foot clearance to the ceiling from the drivers. As long as this hypothetical person had some ceiling height, I'd be willing to bet they would be very pleased with this setup.

I am using Mirage OMD-5's. I love them! Look like great speakers but discontinued! Why do these companies constantly discontinue highly rated products! Because like in the case of Mirage and some of the other excellent Canadian speaker companies (Energy, Athena, etc.) they either go out of business or are bought out by large firms and many times eliminate some of their product line. " Klipsch Group, Inc., the parent company of Klipsch Audio Technologies, also owns the Danish loudspeaker firm Jamo, and in 2006 acquired the brands of Mirage, Athena and Energy speakers from Audio Products International (API) of Canada. In 2001 it acquired the company Mondial Designs, manufacturers of electronics under the Aragon and Acurus brand names, but subsequently discontinued those product lines." Trying to keep track of this merry-go-round makes me dizzy more dizzy. I think the whole Klipsch barrel is now owned by Audiovox which of course owns AR, Jensen and who knows what else. So the old Marantz is not the present company, nor is KLH, M&K, and on and on. This is a tough business!

Since my couch is only a foot and a half from the back wall I have my Klipsch RF-15s behind the couch facing up at the ceiling so the sound bounces of the ceiling , works perfect and audyssay calibrates them in just right that way

The more I look at these the more I am thinking about building a set. Might be a fun DIY project and I would like to give the design a try. I love the mounting method.Occasionally I am tasked with hanging an art exhibit in a gallery and this mounting method is both super easy and very secure.

That how my listening room seating is. My couch is against the rear wall. It works well in my opinion.

My seating is about 30" from the back wall, so I used Definitive Technology UIW BPZ/A in-wall bi-pole speakers about 4' apart. My other 7 speakers are Definitive Technology with a pair of legacy JBL L7 serving as Surround L/R until I can find and try some BP 30 or possibly pick a pair of BP7001SC.
Those GR Research look like the perfect solution for those with small rooms that also want back surrounds when their seating is close to the back wall. I might start recommending these to folks that want to go 7.x in room with limited space in back.
