I have been looking for a review of the XPR-2 by a member that ordered and received one. Nobody has bought and received one yet?

There will likely be one after the holidays. Busy time of year for most people...

I just received my amp yesterday so I can give you a preliminary review. First I'll give you some context and background. My system consists of biamplified full range ribbon speakers (Apogee Divas) powered by a pair of Krell KSA-250 amplifiers. The crossover frequency is 350 Hz. I am in the process of repairing and refurbishing one of amps used for upper frequency duty (complete capacitor replacement). This amp is going on 22 years in service and the sound is not as smooth and fatigue free as I remembered it thus the refurbishment. After four weeks or so of no music I decided to purchase an XPA-2 as a spare amp to use. I was so impressed with its performance for the money that I sold my Bryston 3B ST used in my home theater as the main amp and substitued the XPA-2. I took a chance on the XPR-2 as a stand in for the Krell.
Now for the sound. I am using it as the upper range amp with my other Krell (which was refurbished about five years ago) on the bass. The XPR-2 was warmed up for three hours before listening and I spent about two and a half hours listening to a variety of music and recording qualities from my music server system. The sound is very smooth and fatigue free with great bass punch. My partially deaf girl friend who has no interest in audio commented it sounds much better than the XPA-2. I agree. The sound reminded me as similar to the sound of my Koetsu cartridge when I first played it - large well defined image with soft highs. I need to listen more to decide whether the smoothness is a coloration and comes at the expense of detail. So far I am very impressed.

willcycle, your experience with the XPR-2 top end is the exact same thing I've noted with my XPR-5. I find it to be a big step up over my previous UPA-1s (which were essentially an X-series amp module). I don't think it's coming at the expense of detail either. In fact, I find it to have MORE detail. The imaging is wider/bigger and ROCK SOLID. Congrats on a wonderful purchase of the XPR-2. My XPR-1s were just delivered about two hours ago. I won't be able to get them up and running until tomorrow at the earliest. As luck would have it, my back went out yesterday, so moving 100lb amps myself is not gonna happen. I have to wait for an army to arrive to help me.

Danr - glad to hear that you got your XPR-1s delivered You're on deck for XPR-1s Jimbo! Sorry about your back Thanks. Threw it out fixing a flat tire. Certainly not gonna be lifting 100lb amps with a still tender back. I hope i can get em installed tomorrow.
